ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Campbell men's tennis team was successful at the Men's Carolina Regionalas three singles players in sophomore Steven Billington (Conway, Wales) Ondreh Kralik (Herlev, Denmark) and Garrison Kinney (Lewisville, N.C.) finished in the top four of their bracket. Each doubles team finished in third place for the Camels.
The highest finish came from Billington, who defeated Steven Patrick of Winthrop, 6-2, 6-3, Ernest Albrech of Gardner-Webb, 6-0,6-2 and Daniel Kripak of UNC Asheville, 6-3, 6-1 on his way to the finals of Bracket II. Billington put of a fight, but ended up falling to Dylan Comerford of Winthrop by identical 6-4 scores.
In bracket I, Rossignon advanced to the semifinal match by knocking off Artem Tarasov of Tennessee Tech, 6-2, 6-3 and William O'Connell of Presbyterian, 6-4, 6-1. He fell to Harry Menzies of South Carolina, in a grueling three-set match, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 and dropped a second match that went the sidtance to Vasily Eremeeve of Tennessee Tech, 2-6, 6-1, 6-4.
A pair of Camels had success in braket II as Kralik and Kinney reached the semifinals before dropping three-set matches to finish in third and fourth, respectively. Kralik notched two-set victories over Will Goldbery of UNC Asheville, 6-0, 6-2 and Chase Altieri of Winthrop, 6-0, 6-2. Kinney took wins against Will Albright of UNCG, 6-2, 6-1 and Brett Landau, 6-2, 6-1.
Additionally, senior Josep Baro (Barcelona, Spain) registered a 2-1 finish in bracket three with wins over Landau, 6-2, 6-0 and Brendan Dempsey of Gardner-Webb, 6-3, 6-1.
In double play Rossingnon/Baro defeated Landeard/Cocker of UNCA, 8-3, but fell to O'Connell and Brighton of Presbyterina, 8-6. The duo regrouped to knock off Waissen/Kripak of UNCA, 8-5.
Bracket II was similar for the Camels with junior Fernando Guillen (San Louis Potosi, Mexico)/senior David Clavera (Barcelona, Spain) winning in the quarterfinals, 8-2, against Bruce/Asis of Presbyterian. After falling to Cook/Santana of Georgia State, 8-6, the tandem defeated Snead/Crocker of Presbterian to finish in third, 8-6.
Kralik/junior Garrison Kinney (Lewisville, N.C.) started bracket III with an 8-4 win over Flynn/Albright of UNCG. Landau/Contay from UNCA just slipped past them in the semis, 9-7. An 8-5 decision over Chen/Altieri of Winthrop notched a third-place finish.
This event wraps up the fall schedule for the Camels. Campbell begins its spring dual-match schedule on Jan. 18 at the VCU Indoor 4x1 Invitational.
