Women's Tennis Knocks off East Carolina 5-2

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell improved to 3-0 at home this season following a 5-2 win over East Carolina Wednesday afternoon. Tamara Stanic, Anais Gomar, Katya Yegoreychenko, and Karolina Chernaya earned singles victories for the Camels (5-2, 0-1).

Campbell jumped ahead 1-0 after sweeping through doubles play. Chernaya and Borislava Nikolova defeated Yilian Zhang and Danielle Terpko 8-4 in the one spot to improve to 4-1 this season as a team. Stanic and Yegoreychenko knocked off Natalie Collins and Dana Grey in the two spot (8-3) and Natasha Afridi and Gomar defeated Renata Bakiera and Abby Richmond in the three spot (8-6).

Gomar quickly put the Camels up 2-0 by defeating Gray in the six spot (6-2, 6-1). The senior from Lleida, Spain is 4-2 this season in singles play.

Following an ECU victory in the six spot, Yegoreychenko gave Campbell a 3-1 lead after knocking off Terpko (6-3, 6-4) in the four spot. Stanic sealed the win for the Camels by defeating Bakiera 7-5, 6-3 in the two position. The Budva, Montenegro native is 4-3 this season.

Chernaya secured the fifth and final point for the Camels by defeating Natalie Collins in the one spot. Chernaya dropped the first set 2-6 but rallied back to win the second set 7-5. The Tashkent, Uzbekistan native had little trouble in the tie-breaker to take the third set 10-6 and win the match (2-6, 7-5, 10-3).

Campbell begins a five match road trip Friday (February 25) at USC Upstate. Match time is set for 2:00 pm.
