Women's Tennis Defeats USC Upstate 4-3

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Campbell picked up victories in the top three singles spots and earned the doubles point en route to a 4-3 victory over USC Upstate Friday afternoon. The Camels stand at 6-2 overall this season, the best eight match start since 2008.

Karolina Chernaya improved to a team best 6-2 this season in singles play after defeating Isabel von Stryk (6-0, 7-6) in the one spot. Freshman Tamara Stanic won her second match in a row in the two spot by knocking off Julie Bell (6-4, 6-1).

Natasha Afridi defeated Hannah Al-Sakati 6-3, 6-1 in the three spot. The sophomore from Tokyo is 5-2 this season in singles play.

The Camels captured the doubles point by sweeping all three doubles matches. Borislava Nikolova and Chernaya knocked off Talia Rojas and Von Stryk (8-5) in the one spot, while Stanic and Katya Yegoreychenko defeated Maria Tonani and Al-Sakati in the two spot (8-5). Both duos are 5-1 this season.

Afridi and Anais Gomar completed the doubles sweep for the Camels by picking up the win in the three spot.

Both the Camels and the Spartans suffered through a multi hour rain delay before the match started. The match, originally slated to start at 2:00 pm, didn't begin until 4:30 pm.

The Camels return to Big South Conference play tomorrow morning at UNC Asheville. Match time is set for 11:00 am.
