Cheriesse Campbell Claims CCSA Swimmer of the Week Honor

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – For the second time in her career Campbell swimmer Cheriesse Campbell was named the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association Women's Swimmer of the Week, the league announced on Feb. 7 for the week of action from Jan. 30- Feb. 4. The honor is the second for a Campbell swimmer this season and the fifth time the last two years that a CU swimmer has been recognized.

Campbell started her meet and picked up the victory in the 200 free (1:56.04). She also finished as the runner-up in the 500 free (5:06.08) and was on the 200 free relay team that finished fourth in their event (1:42.41). Campbell's two top-three finishes against UNC Wilmington ran her total to 24 top-three finishes this season including 13 event victories. She leads the Camels in both categories. Campbell will enter the CCSA Championship ranked fourth in the conference in the 1,650 free, fifth in the 500 free and the 1,000 free, sixth in the 200 free and 16th in the 200 fly

The sophomore from Sunrise, Fla. was also named the CCSA's Swimmer of the Week on Feb. 9, 2011. Fellow sophomore Charlotte Cornet took home the team's CCSA Swimmer of the Week Award earlier this season on Oct. 19.

Campbell is one of three active CU swimmers to have been named a CCSA Swimmer of the Week along with Kylie Warne (Nov. 10, 2010 and Feb. 2, 2011) plus Cornet.

The Camels will next be in action and travel to Athens, Ga. to participate in the CCSA Championship from Feb. 16-18.
