ROCK HILL, S.C.  – Campbell's softball team (11-14) was again limited offensively in taking a 1-0 loss to St. John's (5-15) in the team's first game of the second day of the Winthrop/Adidas Invitational. The Camels have now combined for 10 hits and one run in the three games at the tournament. CU has also been shutout in consecutive games and has lost three in a row.

Junior Brittany Arnn (5-6) was the tough luck loser in the contest and allowed just the one run on a wild pitch in six innings worked. St. John's Ashley Beza (3-8) was the winner and allowed just three hits while fanning nine. She also only walked one and threw a total of 79 pitches in throwing the complete game shutout.

The Red Storm were able to put runners on base on each of the first three inning, but Arnn was able to escape all situations unscathed.

The CU defense turned a double play to escape the fourth inning as sophomore Shaela Churchill fielded a ball headed up the middle, threw onto freshman Ericka Nesbitt who then relayed it to freshman Erica Johnson at first for the twin killing.

The Camels nearly broke through in the fifth inning. Freshman Camise Patterson led off the inning with a double. She moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from  Johnson, but a ground out and failed double steal ended the inning.

The Red Storm broke through for a run on a wild pitch in the sixth inning. Kristi Cady and Kacee Cox had back to back singles. A ground out moved both into scoring position and the wikd pitch allowed Cady to score from third.

The Camels will have one more game at the tournament against UNC Wilmington (4-13) at 5 p.m.
