BUIES CREEK – Karolina Chernaya and Tamara Stanic picked up victories in the top two singles spots, but Campbell fell 4-3 to Coastal Carolina Tuesday afternoon. The loss snaps a six match winning streak for the Camels (9-3, 1-2).
Campbell jumped out to a 1-0 lead by capturing the doubles point. Karolina Chernaya and Borislava Nikolova clinched the point by defeating Miki Bunea and Diana Mortlock in the one spot (8-6). Stanic and Katya Yegoreychenko improved to 8-2 after knocking off Katie Fosnacht and Mikaela Kristoffersson (8-5) in the two spot.
Chernaya defeated Buena in the one position. The Tashkent, Uzbekistan native dropped the first set 3-6. but fought back to take the second set 6-4. Chernaya would keep the momentum rolling and win the third set 7-6 in thrilling fashion to take the match (3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (8-6). Both Chernaya and Stanic are 9-3 this season.
Stanic defeated Mortlock in the two position. The Budva, Montenegro native easily took the first set 6-1, but fell in the second set 2-6. However Stanic fought back, and took the third set 6-2, and won the match (6-1, 2-6, 6-2). She is currently riding a six match winning streak.
The Camels return to the courts Saturday, March 24 as they take on Presbyterian at the Nisbet Tennis Center. Match time is set for 1:00 pm.
