NINETY SIX, S.C. -- Big South player of the year Kaylin Yost stands two strokes off the individual lead while Campbell holds a one-stroke edge on the team leader board following Tuesday's second round of the Big South Conference women's golf championship at The Patriot Golf Club.
A sophomore from Pembroke Pines, Fla., Yost (73-72--145) fired an even-par 72 on Tuesday at the par-72, 6009-yard Patriot layout. She had four birdies on the day, including one on the par-five 18th hole.
After a double bogey 6 at number one, Yost played the final 17 holes two-under par and sits two strokes behind Brittany Henderson of Coastal Carolina (75-68--143) heading into Wednesday's final round. Henderson played the back 9 holes at four-under en route to her league championship record-tying round of 68 that included six birdies.
Campbell senior Michelle Koh (71-76--147) -- the first round leader -- birdied the par-three 17th hole and is in third place, one shot in front of Coastal Carolina's Frida Castillo (76-72--148).
Jennifer Dilger of Winthrop (77-73--150) and Paige Reese of Radford (76-74--150) are tied for fifth.
Big South freshman of the year Lisbeth Brooks birdied the 18th hole to move into a tie for 9th place (78-75--153). Junior Teresa Urquizu, who stood second after an opening round 72, dropped to a tie for 20th (72-84--156) at plus-12. CU frosh Brooke Bellomy is tied for 29th (82-77--159).
Through 36 holes, Yost is tied for first place in the 50-player field in par-4 scoring (+2), while ranking in a tie for second with Koh in birdies (7). Yost is also tied for 3rd in par-5 scoring (-3).
Koh leads the field at minus-5 on the par-5 holes. Brooks is tied for the tournament lead with 26 pars.
Campbell (294-300--594) owns a one-stroke edge over defending champion Coastal Carolina (298-297--595) entering the final 18 holes. Gardner-Webb (307-304--611) is third, eight strokes in front of Winthrop (313-306--619) in the 10-school field.
The Camels are seeking their 11th conference title in the last 21 seasons and first in the Big South since winning back-to-back crowns in 1993 and 1994. CU claimed 8 women's golf championships in 17 years as a member of the Atlantic Sun Conference from 1995-2011.
