BUIES CREEK, N.C.-After resetting the Campbell hammer throw record for the third consecutive week, Jessica Dunston has been named the Big South Conference's Choice Hotels Field Athlete of the Week.
Dunston, ranked 27th overall in the NCAA East Region, finished fifth at the NC State Raleigh Relays last weekend, notching the record toss of 55.50 meters.
The junior from Knightdale, N.C. has upped the CU record in all three outdoor meets this season, including a 54.59 meter mark at the Coastal Carolina Shamrock and a 52.77 meter throw at the UNC Wilmington Seahawk Invitational. Dunston took the hammer throw titles at both.
Dunston owns school records in the indoor weight throw and shot put, while holding Campbell marks in the outdoor hammer throw and shot put.
A six-time Atlantic Sun All-Conference performer, the award is Dunston's third overall athlete of the week honor in her career, and first in the Big South. Dunston was honored twice by the Camels' former conference, the A-Sun, last season.
Campbell will be back in action this weekend, traveling to nearby Durham, N.C. for the Duke Invitational April 6-7.
