Lynisha Ochogu Named Assistant Basketball Coach

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell head women's basketball coach Wanda Watkins announced the addition of former Lady Camel women's player Lynisha Ochogu to her coaching staff for the 2012-13 school year.

Ochogu will assist in all facets of the Lady Camel program, including recruiting, instruction, travel, scouting, film exchange and academics among all other capacities.

"We are extremely excited to have Lynisha involved in our program again on a daily basis," said Coach Watkins. "And we warmly welcome her back home to the Creek!"

"I am tremendously excited to begin my coaching career here at Campbell," Ochogu stated. "Life has led me back to where my collegiate basketball career started and there is no better place to be than at a place that feels like home. Coach Watkins, Coach Weiss and Coach Hall are like family to me and the players exemplify all that Campbell Women's Basketball is all about. With that said, there is no doubt in my mind that this is the place for me."

"During her playing days, Lynisha learned so much about perseverance and adversity as she overcame a serious knee injury during her sophomore season to return to the court," added Watkins. "She went through a great deal as a player overcoming that injury and it only enhanced her love for the game."

Ochogu was a student-athlete at Campbell and a member of the Lady Camel women's basketball program for four years. She began her career as freshman during the 2006-07 academic school year and finished as a redshirt junior during the 2009-10 academic campaign.

She played 78 games in her career and scored 239 points, pulled down 158 rebounds and recorded 34 steals. She had a breakout season as a senior in 2009-10 when she played in 29 games with four starts. The Charlotte, N.C. native scored 121 points, pulled down 105 rebounds, produced 23 steals, 18 assists while shooting 78 percent from the foul line.

Twice during her career she was named to the Atlantic Sun's All-Academic Team

"Lynisha has always been a devoted, conscientious and true team player," Coach Watkins explained. "She has a passion for the game and loves the orange & black. Lynisha will be an asset to us as she brings a strong work ethic and understands all facets of Lady Camel basketball. She will have an immediate impact with our guard play, but will have involvement in all aspects of our program."

"I am leaving behind the corporate world and several at-risk youths that I have had the opportunity to mentor to come back to Campbell," Ochogu explained. "Those experiences opened my eyes to the passion that I have to teach and motivate individuals to grow in all aspects of their lives. Being a former student-athlete at Campbell also adds value to this transition because of my familiarity with the Lady Camel program. I feel honored to work for someone as distinguished as Coach Watkins, and I look forward to being able to grow alongside such an outstanding and reputable coach."

Ochogu earned a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Campbell in the spring of 2009.
