Buies Creek, N.C. - Campbell women's soccer (2-0-1) will travel to Wilmington, N.C. this weekend to play a pair of match-ups against UNCW and Elon in the UNCW Courtyard Marriott Wilmington Invitational.
The only undefeated team in the Big South, the Fighting Camels will face Colonial Athletic Association's UNCW (2-2-1) Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the UNCW Soccer Stadium. On Sunday, Campbell will play Elon (1-3-1) of the Southern Conference at 2:30 p.m. This will be the first road trip for the Camels in the 2012 regular season.
The Fighting Camels are coming off a 4-2 win against Marshall on Labor Day in Buies Creek. Sophomore Ashley Clark has scored in all three games this season, netting four total goals. The forward leads the Big South in total shots (20), shots per game (6.67), points (9), and goals (4).
Senior goalkeeper Ryann Torrero leads the conference in save percentage (.842) and is second for goals against average (.930). As a team, Campbell is first in the league for goals per game (2.33), assists per game (2.00), and goals allowed (4).
Campbell will face a UNCW side that has played at three ranked Atlantic Coast Conference teams (Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, and Virginia), going 0-2-1. The Seahawks have earned wins against UNC Charlotte and Davidson at home.
Elon has played two Big South teams, defeating VMI 4-0 and losing to Coastal Carolina 0-3. They have dropped matches to ACC teams Duke and NC State and tied Cincinnati.
This is the first of two weekends the Fighting Camels will play in tournaments, the next being Sept. 14-16 at the Catamount Classic.
