College Sports Madness Names Felton Preseason Big South Player of the Year, McQuown, Olson All-Conference

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – College Sports Madness has named Campbell senior infielder Michael Felton its Preseason Big South Player of the Year. Ben McQuown was also named Preseason First Team All-Big South while David Olson picked up Second Team honors.

Felton, who was named Preseason First Team All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA), hit .424 in 2012 with a Campbell and Big South record 103 hits, 52 runs scored, 45 RBI, 12 doubles, three triples, a home run and 11 stolen bases.

Felton was named Second Team All-American by both the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) and the NCBWA last June. Felton also picked up First Team All-Atlantic Region honors from the ABCA.

Among Big South players, he ranked second in on-base percentage (.474) and total bases (124) in the league and tied for fourth in runs scored (52), helping the Camels to a 23-3 start, 41 total wins and 18-game winning streak, all marking CU program bests.

The Big South First Team All-Conference honoree finished the season as Campbell's all-time single season leader in hits (103), singles (87) and at-bats (243) after transferring from Gateway Community College.

Felton was also named to the College Sports Madness First Team All-Big South team, and added North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association All-State accolades.

McQuown, a senior outfielder from Waianae, Hawaii, was named the Hawaii Collegiate Baseball League's No. 5 prospect by Perfect Game this summer, and earned Second Team All-Big South by College Sports Madness after the 2012 season.

As a junior, McQuown set a school record with 20 sacrifice hits while playing in a school record 59 games. McQuown hit .315 in 213 at-bats with six doubles, a triple and a home run, while scoring 43 runs and driving in 37. The outfielder reached base at a .390 clip, walking 23 times, swiping 27 bases and recording four sacrifice flies.

A senior infielder and right-handed pitcher from Auburn, Wash., Olson collected Second Team All-Big South accolades in 2012, adding Big South Presidential Honor Roll accolades. College Sports Madness named Olson to its All-Big South First Team.

Olson hit .350 in 214 at-bats with 20 doubles, a triple and five home runs. As a junior, Olson knocked in 44 RBI and scored 41 runs, walking 10 times with a .419 on-base percentage. Olson owned a .523 slugging percentage and started in all 56 games played. He also made nine appearances on the mound, logging 9.2 innings with a 1.86 ERA, an 0-1 record and 10 strikeouts.

The Camels open the 2013 season on Friday, Feb. 15, hosting Eastern Michigan at the new Jim Perry Stadium.
