BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell will travel to Wilmington on Saturday to take on Coastal Carolina in a full-length scrimmage at the Cape Fear Academy lacrosse field. The event will take place at 4:00 p.m. with admission of $5.
"All the credit here has to go to Beau McCaffrey, the local US Lacrosse rep in the Wilmington area," head coach Phil Schuman said. "Beau contacted me over the summer of 2012 with this idea. Jaime (Sellers) and I couldn't get the schedule worked out then, but we were able to this fall. To be able to bring our great sport, at the Division I level, to a non-traditional area was a no-brainer."
The scrimmage comes a day before the Camels will travel to CCU's campus Sunday for a play day against the Chanticleers, Tampa, and William & Mary.
After playing the inaugural 2013 season with a roster of 14, Schuman is exited to play with a full roster this year.
"To say we are a 'new look' team this fall would be a huge understatement," Schuman commented. "More than half of our roster is made up of freshmen. We have played a lot of people so far in our scrimmages and are really trying to find chemistry with this new group. We had a lot of questions coming in to this fall and I believe our fall competitions thus far have answered them. In many ways 2013-14 is year '1. B.' We are competing for the first time with a true full roster and have the ability to play the style of game we want. This is an exciting time for our program."
Sunday's play day wraps up the fall schedule for the Camels, who will open their regular season with an exhibition match at Pfeiffer on Feb. 1.
