Ormsby scores 6th goal of season in 3-1 loss to Winthrop

Box Score

ROCK HILL, S.C. – For the second straight game the Camels got on the scoreboard first, but couldn't hold onto the lead, falling to Winthrop 3-1 at Eagle Field on Saturday afternoon. Freshman Payton Ormsby scored her team-leading sixth goal of the season for the lone Campbell goal.

"We are very pleased with the effort the team showed today," head coach Todd Clark said.  "It is really tough to continue to make one or two errors every game. We scored a great goal and the attack getting better every day"

Ormsby gave the Camels the 1-0 lead in the 25th minute. Junior Michelle Procaccini took a free kick from 40 yards out, finding freshman Kine Thorsvik, who touched it to Ormsby for the shot past keeper Amelia Henderson.

The Eagles answered just one minute later as Krystyna Freda, the Big South's leading scorer, took a shot from 12 yards out past CU keeper Samantha Lawson, tying the game at one.

Freda also notched the final goal of the half in the 40th minute, receiving a pass from Grace Radler, having another shot from just inside the Campbell penalty area and putting the Eagles up 2-1.

Winthrop scored its third goal of the game in the 52nd minute when Kelly Clark received a serve from Imani Ervins and had the shot on goal. The Eagles held onto the 3-1 lead for the remainder of the game.

"The last two games we have had good intensity," Clark continued.  "At this stage, we have freshmen we're depending on. We have a lot of inexperienced players who are talented and that will come to good things in the future. We're getting better game by game, and the most important thing is to keep working together and staying focused and moving forward in the future."

Winthrop had the slight edge in shots with 12 to Campbell's 10. Lawson faced six shots on goal, making three saves while Henderson stopped four of CU's five shots that found the frame.

The Camels continue to look for their first Big South road win Wednesday, visiting Longwood on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
