Campbell leads Fighting Camel Fall Classic after 36 holes

Round 3 Pairings

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Kaylin Yost and Lisbeth Brooks are tied for second and Campbell owns a 3-stroke lead after 36 holes Monday of the Fighting Camel Fall Classic at Keith Hills Country Club.

The final round of the 54-hole event begins Tuesday at 8:45 a.m.  Admission is free and the public is invited to attend.  Live scoring will also be available on-line at Golfstat.com.

Campbell (302-290—592) shot a tournament-record 2-over-par 290 in Monday's second round and leads Old Dominion (296-299—595) by 3 strokes in the 11-school field.  ODU's Kimberley Bradbury is the individual leader at 2-over 146 (72-74), two strokes in front of a 5-way tie for second that includes the defending champion Yost (73-75—148) and Brooks (78-70—148), who shot the 3rd-lowest 18-hole score in the history of the tourney on Monday afternoon.

Mercer (313-294—607) is third, one stroke in front of Western Carolina (608).  Iowa (611) and High Point (611) are tied for fifth.

Brooks fired three birdies and made 14 pars on Monday afternoon en route to her 2-under-par 70, a total that trails only the 67 shot by Amy Anderson of North Dakota State in 2011 and Yost's 69 last year in the event, which is being held for the 19th time.  A junior from Waunakee, Wis., Brooks made 26 pars Monday, third-most in the 59-player event, and played the par-4 holes at 2-over, tied for best in the field with Rachel Walker of ODU.

Yost shot 73-75 and led the field with 31 pars.  She was 3-over on the par-4 holes Monday and even on the par-5s.

Elizabeth Haycock (73-75) and Rachel Walker (74-74) of Old Dominion, plus Kim Mitchell of Western Carolina (73-75) are also knotted for second place at 4-over 148.

In an event that saw only seven scores in red numbers through the first 18 tournaments, three players broke par Monday afternoon – Brooks (70), Campbell's Tahnia Ravnjak (71) and Lauren Conder of Richmond (71).

Campbell junior Ali Prazak is tied for seventh at 6-over 150 (76-74).  The junior from St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands is tied with Ravnjak for the tournament lead with 7 birdies through 36 holes on the par-72, 6026-yard Keith Hills Orange & Black layout.

A sophomore from Cordeaux Heights, Australia, Ravnjak recovered from an opening-round 80 to fire a one-under-par 71, a total that is tied for the fifth-lowest score in the tournament history.  She led the field with a 4-under score on the par-5 holes.

Freshman Louise Latorre was 1-under on the par-3 layouts and made 23 pars and 4 birdies Monday.  The resident of Pau, France is tied for 14th place at 8-over 152 (75-77).

Four Campbell players are participating as individuals.  Brooke Bellomy is tied for 28th (79-76—155), while seniors Babette Lemberger and Maria Jose Benavides are tied for 35th with identical 80-76—156 scores.  Red-shirt freshman Mary-Katelyn Holanek is tied for 44th (83-75—158).

Campbell has won two of its first five outings this fall – the Golfweek Program Challenge and The Patriot Intercollegiate/Big South Preview – and is seeking its sixth consecutive Fighting Camel Classic title and 15th all-time in its home event.

Last year, Yost shot a one-over-par 217 (73-69-75) to win the individual title by three strokes.  Her 54-hole score was second-lowest in the tournament's history.  Yost also finished third in the 2011 Classic.

Campbell has won its own tournament 12 of the last 13 times the event has been played.  Georgetown (2006) is the only school to unseat the Camels on their home course since 1997.
