Palma, Dahlstrom lead Camels at Clarion Open

CLARION, Pa. – Eloheim Palma and Michael Dahlstrom each went 4-2 Sunday at the Clarion Open to lead the way for Campbell in its first open tournament of the season. Palma posted a pin and a major decision in the heavyweight division while Dahlstrom's wins included a major decision at the 141-pound spot.

Palma, a redshirt senior, fell in his first match to Pittsburgh's P.J. Tasser, but bounced back with a 3:51 pin of American International's Iarik Loschchinin in the wrestleback bracket. He then posted a 7-2 decision over SoCon foe VMI's Juan Adams before earning a 10-1 major decision over Ohio State's Kosta Karageorge. Palma earned his fourth and final win with a 4-2 decision over American International's Matthew Pringle before falling to Ohio State's Nick Tavanello 5-2.

Dahlstrom, a sophomore, also fell in his first match 11-4 to Rutgers' Tyson Dippery 11-4. In the wrestleback bracket, he started off with a 12-2 major decision over Pittsburgh-Johnstown's Ben Rager and followed with a 4-3 decision over Pitt-Johnstown's Luke Palamides. Dahlstrom moved on with a medical forfeit from Pittsburgh's Edgar Bright before earning another 4-3 decision over Finger Lakes Wrestling's Angelo Silvestro. His tournament ended with an 8-5 loss to Notre Dame College's Andrew Bannister.

Junior Daniel Luty also posted a winning record going 3-2 on the day at 157 pounds. He started with a 16-1 tech fall over U.S. Military Academy Prep's Spencer Nick. He earned a second straight tech fall, defeating American International's Jonathan Ortiz 15-0 before falling to lock Haven's Dillon Gavlock 7-3. Luty notched his final win with a 5-3 decision over Bloomsburg's Matt Hicks and was edged out by Pitt-Johnstown's Heath Coles 4-3 to end the day.

Campbell entered nine wrestlers into the tournament across seven weight classes. Carsten Kopp went 2-2 at 174 while Drew Walker (133), Grant Blumenthal (157), Garrison Matthews (165), Cody Ryba (165), and Ville Heino (184) all posted 1-2 records in their respective weight classes.
