KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – Campbell shot the day's low round (291) and finished in 14th place on the team leader board Tuesday at the Wendy's Kiawah Classic.
Sophomore Jared Carver matched his career-low round (71), while Craig Hornberger and Amanjyot Singh both shot 73s and Alvaro Veiga 74 as the Camels finished Tuesday's play at 3-over on the par-72, 7061-yard Turtle Point layout.
No.-33 South Carolina (283-286-295—864) won the 18-school event at even par, 22 strokes in front of runner-up Marquette (292-296-298—886). Campbell finished the tournament at 316-302-291—909, two strokes ahead of Richmond.
A native of Weston, Fla., Carver made 3 birdies on the day to match the 71 he shot last spring at the Keith Hills Intercollegiate, Hornberger, a freshman from Lancaster, Pa., played his last eight holes at 4-under-par. Singh was two-under over his final nine holes.
Nick Nelson of Marquette (70-67-73—210) claimed individual honors by two strokes over South Carolina's Matthew NeSmith (75-69-68—212).
Campbell returns to action Feb. 17-18 at the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate in Hilton Head, S.C.
