WATCH: NCAA Championship Site Selection Announcement – Men's and Women's Soccer
INDIANAPOLIS – The NCAA has announced that Campbell University, along with the Town of Cary, will host the 2014 Men's College Cup and the 2015 Women's College Cup at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary. The bids come after Campbell and the Town of Cary hosted the 2013 Women's College Cup last weekend in the same location.
"Campbell University is extremely pleased to be able to partner again with the Town of Cary, Capital Area Soccer League, and the Greater Raleigh Sports Alliance to host the Men's College Cup in 2014 and the Women's College Cup in 2015," said Campbell Associate Athletics Director and College Cup co-director Kim Graham. "We are indebted to the NCAA and the co-sponsors of the event for allowing us to have been involved in the 2013 Women's College Cup. We certainly learned a lot from our involvement this past year that will serve us well as we prepare for the future events."
Capital Area Soccer League (CASL) and the Greater Raleigh Sports Alliance, who were partners in the 2013 Women's College Cup, will also team up with CU and the Town of Cary for the next two years.
"This weekend saw a lot of work by many people involved from our athletics department, but it was certainly worth all the effort," Graham continued. "There was something spectacular about the women's semi-finals on Friday evening. Seeing four quality teams being encouraged by 10,000 screaming fans was something that many people will never have the chance to experience."
The 2014 Men's College Cup will be held in Cary for the fourth time in championship history, while 2015 will be the seventh time the Women's College Cup takes place at WakeMed Soccer Park.
The announcement came as the NCAA released championship hosts and sites for the 2014-18 seasons. 523 sites were named hosts for 82 of the 89 NCAA championships, making it the largest collection of host site announcements in association history.
The bidding process began in July and final submissions were due in mid-September. Each sport committee, per division, then selected the host sites it believed would provide the ultimate experience for the competing student-athletes.
The selected cities represent 39 states across the United States. Florida led the way as the state with the most championship site selections with 42 sites, while the state of Pennsylvania had 34 selections and Texas finished with 30. California and North Carolina rounded out the top five with 29 each.
