BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Sophomore pitcher Julia Callicutt (Asheboro, N.C.) notched her second weekly honor following a 4-0 start for the Campbell softball team as the College Sports Madness Big South Player of the Week.
The right-handed pitcher tossed the seventh no-hitter in Camels' softball history on Feb. 8 against St. Bonaventure, 9-0. It was the first since junior Olivia Scarborough (Buies Creek, N.C.) pitched a no-hit gem against N.C. Central in an 8-0 win on Apr. 25, 2011.
The Asheboro, N.C., native totaled a career-high eight strikeouts against the Bonnies and pitched just one batter over the minimum after giving up a walk in the second inning.
Callicutt registered her second victory of the opening weekend by shutting down Seton Hall in the top of the eighth. She escaped the international tiebreaker that places a runner on second to start the frame, unscathed by registering a strikeout and two fly outs.
Opening the season at 4-0, matches the start by the 2004 Campbell squad, which was the last time it occurred.
Campbell heads to Athens, Ga., on Friday for the Georgia Softball Classic with contests against Middle Tennessee at 10 a.m. and Georgia at 3 p.m. Northwestern and Middle Tennessee are on the slate on Saturday beginning at 10 a.m.
The Camels play their next contest at Amanda Littlejohn Stadium on Mar. 8, hosting the Campel Stampede Invitational against Northern Kentucky and Norfolk St. at 3 p.m.
