Softball Falls to No. 13 Georgia

ATHENS, Ga. – After the Campbell softball team picked up a 10-2 win over Middle Tennessee this morning, the Camels dropped their second game on Friday to host No. 13 Georgia, 11-0, in five innings at Jack Turner Stadium. Sophomore shortstop Ericka Nesbitt (Salisbury, N.C.) extended her career-best hitting streak to 16 games, while freshman catcher Courtney Klingler (Alvin, Texas) also tallied a base hit.

Taking the loss for the Camels was sophomore Julia Callicutt (Asheboro, N.C.), who registered three strikeouts in 2.1 innings of work. Senior hurler Brittany Arnn (Danville, Va.) finished contest for Campbell (5-1).

Geri Ann Glasco (3-0) pitched a two-hitter with six strikeouts for the 4-2 Bulldogs. The Georgia offense struck for 10 runs in the first three innings and Glasco notched five strikeouts in the circle to slow down the Camels' offense.

During the fourth inning as the lineup turned around for the first time, Nesbitt started the frame off with a single up the middle. A one-out hit to center by Klingler and walk drawn by sophomore outfielder Stephanie Jones (Black Mountain, N.C.) loaded the bases, but Campbell was unable to push across a run before Glasco ended the frame.

Leading the Bulldogs was Paige Wilson tallying a perfect 4-for-4 afternoon with three RBI and three runs scored. Kaylee Puailao was 3-for-3 with four RBI including a home run for Georgia as the top of the order did the most damage going 9-of 11 in the tilt.

Georgia came out swinging in the first as Wilson sent a base knock up the middle before Glasco and Puailoa connected on back-to-back homers to put the home team up 3-0.

In the bottom of the second, the Bulldogs struck for three runs on four singles, but two miscues enabled for runners to advance and allowed Georgia to take a 5-0 lead. A strikeout to end the inning for Callicutt enabled the pitcher to get out of a bases loaded jam.

A five-run inning with a lead-off double and five singles helped Georgia open a 10-0 advantage. The big base hit came from Puailoa with a single to right that drove in two runs.

Georgia tacked on an additional run in the bottom of the fourth as Wilson singled home Bry Blanco.

The Camels play two contests at the Georgia Classic on Saturday against Northwestern and Middle Tennessee beginning at 10 a.m. The team wraps up the three-day event on Sunday at 10 a.m. against the Wildcats.
