Softball Faces Elon on Wednesday

BUIIES CREEK, N.C. – Due to the threat of rain on Tuesday, the Campbell softball team has rescheduled its contest at Elon for Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. The Phoenix (1-3) will be hosting the Camels (6-2) in the first contest at Hunt Softball Park.

Campbell heads to Woodstock, Ga., on Friday for five games at the Kennesaw State Phyllis Rafter Memorial Tournament. The Camels are slated to open the event against Bowling Green at 10 a.m. and Akron at 3 p.m. The host Owls, Troy and Virginia Tech are scheduled to play Campbell.

The next home contest at Amanda Littlejohn Stadium is the annual Camel Stampede on Mar. 8-9. The Camels will welcome Drexel, Morehead State, Norfolk St. and Northern Kentucky.

CAMPBELL (6-2) at ELON PHOENIX (1-3)

Scouting Report: Elon is 1-3 and began the season by upsetting No. 8 Georgia, 5-2 on Feb. 8. The Phoenix were dealt losses by Ohio State (2-10), Georgia (0-8) and Winthrop(1-4). Tomeka Watson (.417) paces the offense with a team-high five hits including two home runs and four RBI. Registering three hits and a homer were Emily Cameron and Grace Eng. The Phoenix have posted a .245 batting avg., .383 slugging and .304 on-base pct. In the circle, Chelsea White (1-1) has paced the team with 12 innings pitched and 12 strikeouts in compiling a 3.00 ERA. Elon is opening up Hunt Softball Park, a stadium that replaces East Field. Head Coach Kathy Bocock is in her second season guiding the Phoenix program.

Series History: Campbell leads the all-time series 21-8-1 against Elon. The Camels are 10-4 at home, 9-3-1 on the road and 2-1 at neutral sites. The Phoenix swept a doubleheader in Buies Creek during the last matchup in 2010 (6-8, 2-5). There are two six-game win streaks in the series held by the Camels (2000-02, 2005-07).

Record Setting 5-0 Start
-    For the first time in program history, the Camels began the season with five victories.
-    The win over Middle Tennessee set a record for the most victories before the first loss in the program's 28-year history.
-    Campbell can with a win over Elon tie the best nine-game start to a season set in 1994 and 2008 at 7-2.

Powerful Offense
-    The Camels posted four run-rule victories this year against Virginia (8-0, 5), St. Bonaventure (9-0, 5). George Washington (11-1, 5) and Middle Tennessee (10-2, 6).
-    The team has compiled a .344 batting average and .630 slugging and .436 on-base pct.
-    Fourteen home runs, nine doubles and two triples have been hit by the squad.
-    Raven Lee (.909), Courtney Klingler (.909) and Stephanie Jones (.870) have each posted impressive slugging numbers.
-    Campbell has totaled 7.3 runs on 8.3 hits per game.

Nesbitt's Streak
-    Dating back to last season, sophomore Ericka Nesbitt has tallied a hit in 18-straight games.
-    She has 11 multi-hit and one multi-RBI contests.
-    The Salisbury, N.C., native is the table setter for Campbell at the top of the order.
-    Nesbitt has compiled a .525 batting, .590 slugging and .544 on-base pct. during the streak and swiped five bases.

Callicutt's No Hitter
-    Sophomore Julia Callicutt registered the seventh no-hitter in Campbell softball history in a 9-0 five-inning win vs. St. Bonaventure.
-    It was the first no-hitter for the Camels since current-junior Olivia Scarborough tossed one against N.C. Central, 8-0 (5) on April 25, 2011.
-    The Asheboro, N.C., native fanned a career-high eight.
-    She gave up one walk in the third, facing one batter over the minimum.

Sweeping Big South Weekly Awards
-    Lee and Callicut were named player and pitcher of the week, respectively, from the Big South office on Feb. 11.
-    Lee totaled three home runs and 11 RBI on the weekend.
-    She registered her first-career multi-home run game against St. Bonaventure.
-    Callicutt tossed a no-hitter vs. St. Bonaventure and picked up a second win in relief against Seton Hall.
-    The righty escaped the international tiebreaker without yielding a run with a strikeout and fly out.
-    The last time Campbell swept the weekly awards was on Mar. 10, 1998 by Martha Covington and Michell Hannon. The Camels were in the A-Sun at the time, formerly the TAAC.
-    Callicutt also garnered College Sports Madness Big South Player of the Week honors.

Topping Virginia
-    Campbell notched its 17th-ACC victory and fifth over Virginia to open the season with an 8-0 run-rule win at Amanda Littlejohn Stadium.
-    All eight runs were via the long ball from Sarah Forgacs, Raven Lee and Stephanie Jones.
-    Forgacs started it off with a blast in the first.
-    Jones capped the night by launching a walk-off hit over the fence, scoring three runs.

Strong Pitching To Begin The Campaign
-    The Camels four-member pitching staff posted a 1.83 ERA in 23 innings to open the season.
-    There were 21 strikeouts recorded and only four extra-base hits.
-    Besides the five-run first inning against Seton Hall, Campbell was impressive in the circle.
-    Callicutt notched two wins, while Olivia Scarborough and Courtney Roberts each generated one.

Big South Preseason Poll
-    Campbell was tabbed third in the league's preseason poll that was voted upon by the conference's coaches.
-    The preseason-favorite was Coastal Carolina followed by Charleston Southern.

College Sports Madness Preseason Awards
-    Big South First Team selections were Ericka Nesbitt and Stephanie Jones.
-    Lee and Forgacs were honored on the second team.

Retooled Coaching Staff in 2013
-    Head coach Drew Peterson brought in Todd Bradley, Brittany Lee and Eric Lee during the summer.
-    Todd Bradley has 12 years of head coaching experience in various division of softball.
-    Brittany Stanley Lee is one of the most decorated pitchers in program history from 2005-10.
-    Brittany holds the Camels' career records for appearances (238), victories (67), shutouts (23) and strikeouts (493)

A Look Back At 2012
-    Campbell finished 30-29 and 12-9 in the Big South last season, its first campaign in the league since 1994 after competing in the A-Sun.
-    Jones was recognized following the campaign as the Big South Co-Freshman of the Year and earned a spot on the All-Conference First Team, where she was joined by catcher Taylor McGee.
-    Forgacs, Lee and Nesbitt were acknowledged on the second team.
