BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell dropped their first meet since Jan. 15, as it fell to No. 7 Virginia Tech Saturday 42-4 in Gore Arena in its final home meet of the season. The Camels move to 5-7 overall, while the Hokies improve to 14-2.
Virginia Tech used four pins, three major decisions and two decisions in the victory.
CU freshman
Michael Dahlstrom earned the only Camels win of the day at 141 pounds. He posted an 8-0 major decision over VT's Michael Gowan. The victory evened Dahlstrom's overall and dual meet records to 3-3.
At 125 pounds, freshman No. 28 Eric Montoya dropped his first dual meet loss since the Camel Duals on Nov. 10. VT's Jarrod Garnett, the third-ranked wrestler in the nation in the weight class, pinned Montoya in 2:26. Montoya moves to 28-11 on the year, with a 7-4 dual meet record.
The Camels take the road for the remainder of the season. Their final two Southern Conference matches will be on Feb. 14 and Feb. 25, as they take on Davidson and Chattanooga, respectively. CU will face two more Atlantic Coast Conference teams in North Carolina and Duke Feb. 17 in Chapel Hill, N.C.
