CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Big South has named Campbell junior Brittany Kincer and freshman Loren Day players of the week for March 11-17, the league announced Monday. Kincer, a goalkeeper, was named Defensive Player of the Week, while Day, an attacker, was selected The Crons Brand Freshman of the Week.
"First and foremost, I think each of these players would tell you that this honor carries more meaning because of the way our team played this past week; going 2-0 on a long road trip," head coach Phil Schuman said.
Kincer went 2-0 against St. Francis and Detroit this week with 180 minutes in the goal. She posted a .574 save percentage and had owned a goals-against average of 10. Kincer made two crucial stops in the last 14 seconds of the game against St. Francis, as she recorded 15 total saves while the Camels went on to win the contest 8-7. Against Detroit, she blocked 12 shots, ending the week with 27 total. The award is Kincer's first of the season.
"Brittany's 15-save performance against St. Francis and her ball stopping and leadership against Detroit were a prime example of why we wanted Brittany here at Campbell," Schuman noted. "Loren had an excellent week and her two goals in the closing minutes against St. Francis were a huge reason for our win. She carried that over for another great performance against Detroit and was again a huge part of our success."
Against St. Francis, Day netted two goals 14 seconds apart in the final two minutes of the game to clinch the Campbell victory. She finished the game with three goals. At Detroit, Day netted her first goal with 1:58 left in the first half to give CU a one-goal lead. Her second goal came 34 seconds into the second half and put the Camels ahead by one for a second time. In the two matches, she totaled five goals, one assist, four ground balls, five draw controls, and two caused turnovers. The award is Day's second of the year.
Kincer and Day are back in action with the rest of the Camels Saturday as they face Howard on the road at 3 p.m.
