Women's Tennis Drops 5-2 Decision at Charleston Southern

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Campbell women's tennis team fell 5-2 at Charleston Southern on Tuesday afternoon. Sophomore Tamara Stanic (Budva, Montenegro) and senior Lourdes Ros (Greensboro, N.C.) notched singles victories for the Camels.

Campbell fell to 3-8 overall and 1-1 in the Big South, while Charleston Southern improved to 4-4 on the season and 2-0 during league play.

The doubles competition began with the Bucs taking the No. 2 slot, 8-4. The final two matches came down to the wire as Ewa Telenga (Gliwice, Poland) and Ros fell by a tight 8-6 margin to Susita Das and Marketa Placha to clinch the first point for CSU. The narrowed margin came at No. 1 as  Alia Nour and Angelica Sidorenko used a 9-7 score to lifted them over Stanic and sophomore Karolina Chernaya (Tashkent, Uzbekistan).

The Bucs notched the first two points in the singles play at No. 5 and No. 2 from Nour and Yvonne Hubler, respectively. CSU clinched the match with a 7-5, 6-1 victory by Alexandra Walters against junior Natasha Afridi (Tokyo, Japan).

Campbell continued to fight as Ros picked up its first point with a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 6. Stanic took the first frame 6-3 against Placha before notched an 8-5 triumph in the second set tiebreaker to make the score, 4-2.

The final match went the distance as Chernaya took the first set 6-3, but dropped the final two sets by 6-4 scored to Sidorenko.

The Camels return to the James Nisbet Tennis Center on Saturday against Radford at 11 a.m.
