BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell is highly ranked nationally in several statistical categories in the first NCAA report of the 2013 season.
The Camels rank in the nation's top-25 in several team and individual categories, leading the country in times hit by pitch with 38, and ranking second in stolen bases with 45, trailing only Louisville (50).
Senior outfielder Ben McQuown, meanwhile, leads the nation with 18 stolen bases, while senior righthander Ryan Mattes is tied for fourth with three wins.
McQuown, along with teammates David Olson and Nick Ray also stand 12th in times hit by pitch with six each, while McQuown stands 14th with 16 runs scored. Elijah Trail also ranks 20th with 15 runs.
Trail ranks 18th in doubles with six, while Ryan Thompson is 20th with three saves and David Olson is 25th in on-base percentage at .553.
As a team, Campbell ranks fifth in doubles with 30 (Dallas Baptist, 33), while standing sixth in batting average (.332; Georgia Tech, .350), scoring (9.7 runs per game; Kentucky, 10.3) and slugging (.500; Troy, .537).
The Camels are seventh in on-base percentage at .434 (Central Arkansas, .470), ninth in runs with 107 (Virginia, Central Arkansas, 119), 10th in double plays with 14 (Mississippi State, 19), 18th in sacrifice flies at nine (3 with 14) and 24th in hits with 123 (Mississippi State, 156).
Campbell is 10-1 on the season and carry a nine-game winning streak to nationally ranked North Carolina State on Wednesday. Campbell is receiving votes in a pair of national polls this week, including the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Division I Poll and the College Baseball Daily Mid-Major Poll.
The 10-1 start matches the 1999 squad for the best 11-game start in Campbell history.
After the midweek matchup at NC State on Wednesday, the Camels will host Fairleigh Dickenson in a weekend series. Campbell will host the Knights Friday at 5 p.m. and Saturday at 1 p.m. in a doubleheader.
