Box Score DELAND, FLA. – Campbell picked up its second win of the season Friday, as it defeated Stetson 17-7. The Camels moved to 2-2 on the season as they began a seven-game road slate.
"We got off to a sluggish start tonight and credit Stetson for that," said head coach Phil Schuman. "I was very pleased with the way we responded and the way we commanded the game after that. I would like to see us play cleaner at the end of the game, but overall I am pleased with our effort and execution. Getting our young group through their first away trip has been a fun experience and it is nice to wrap it up with a win."
Stetson started the scoring 15 seconds into the game, as Danielle Horgan edged a shot by the Camel defense.
Junior Taelar Errington notched her sixth goal of the season two minutes later to lead off the Camels' effort. Campbell never trailed the remainder of the game.
The Camels posted ten goals to the Hatters' three in the first half. CU's goals came on 18 shots, and junior goalkeeper Brittany Kincer posted three saves in the half on six shots on-goal.
Freshman Erica Hitch netted three of her five goals in the first 20 minutes. Her five total led the team as she increases her season total to 11.
In the second half, the Camels added seven goals on nine shots on-frame. Junior Cloey Henchcliffe scored two in the half, adding to two in the first, for a total of four, the second-most for CU.
Defensively, the Camels picked up 25 ground balls on 18 Hatter turnovers. CU was successful on 13 of 15 clears, and Kincer finished with five total saves.
