Softball Holds 'Strikeout Cancer Day' on Wednesday

BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Campbell hosts North Carolina State on Wednesday with a doubleheader slated for 4 p.m. at Amanda Littlejohn Stadium. The Camels will participate in thier annual "Strikeout Cancer Day" providing cancer awareness through playing softball.

Campbell continues a five-game homestand on Friday with a doubleheader against Charleston Southern with the first pitch slated for 4 p.m. The finale of the three-game set will be played at noon on Saturday.

Campbell Camels (26-13) vs.  N.C. State Wolfpack (19-17-1)

Scouting Report: N.C. State enters the mid-week meeting with a 19-17-1 mark, notching wins over Georgetown (5-1), FIU (1-0, 11-3), Coastal Carolina (4-2), USF (2-1), Troy (9-1), Stony Brook (16-2), Kansas (5-2), N.C. A&T (20-0), Lafayette (10-0), Virginia Tech (10-2, 9-2), East Carolina (5-3), Georgia Tech (12-4), Charlotte (2-0, 10-3), Maryland (4-0, 7-1). The offensive leaders are Chelsea Tate with a .351 average followed by Scout Albertson at .306. Renada Davis has tallied 16 homers and 28 RBI to pace the squad. Adding 23 RBI is Caitlen Dent. The Wolfpack have tallied a team .258 batting avg. and .446 slugging and .351 on-base pct. In the circle, Emily Weiman has posted a 17-15 record with 168 strikeouts in 201.0 innings pitched. A 2-2 record in 39.1 frames has been compiled by Chelsea Stanfield. Head Coach Shawn Rychcik is in his first season guiding the Wolfpack program.
Series History: N.C. State has posted a 10-1 record in the all-time series that began in 2004. Five games between the two squads have been decided by one run including the Camels' 4-3 win in 2010 in Buies Creek. The Wolfpack hold a perfect 4-0 record at home, while Campbell has a 1-5 mark on its turf. N.C. State took the only neutral site contest in 2012.

Leading Off:
-    The doubleheader against the Wolfpack serves as the annual "Strikeout Cancer Day" for Campbell. There is special meaning behind the event for the team as former-player Amanda Littlejohn (2007-08) lost her battle with cancer in 2011.
-    Campbell opens a five-game homestand against the Wolfpack at the friendly confines of Amanda Littlejohn Stadium, where the Camels are 18-3 at home this year. The team has posted a 30-9 record since opening  the facility on March 16, 2012.
-    Last time out, the Camels took 2-of-3 contests at Presbyterian with a 5-4 game-one win and 9-4 series-clinching victory in the finale. Campbell took over first place in the Big South standings with a 10-3 mark, a half-game ahead of Coastal Carolina 10-4.
-    Junior first baseman Raven Lee paces the team with 13 home runs and 47 RBI, ranking second in the Big South in each of those categories.
-    Freshman Courtney Roberts, a Big South Pitcher of the Week on April 1, continued her strong performance with a 3-0 mark last week.  In her last five starts, the Simpsonville, S.C., native is 5-0 with a 3.26 ERA including 39 strikeouts in 34.0 innings of work.
-    The freshman battery of Roberts (P) and Courtney Klingler (C) are the only rookies to earn Big South weekly honors this year. Four more Camels have also picked up weekly awards from the league - Raven Lee (1B), Stephanie Jones (OF), Brittany Arnn (P), Julia Callicutt (P).
-    The pitching staff has compiled a 1.60 ERA during 21 home games with 121 strikeouts in 136.0 innings pitched. Roberts (9-1) paces the staff followed by Callicutt (5-0) and Arnn (3-2). Arnn (0.77) and Callicutt (0.81) have posed the team-lows in ERA.
-    Campbell hosts Charleston Southern beginning on Friday with a 4 p.m. doubleheader. The teams take the field for the series finale on Saturday at noon.

Campbell vs. N.C. State    
-    In three meetings, the Wolfpack held Campbell to a .159 avg.
-    Taylor McGee (.429) and Ericka Nesbitt (.300) paced the camels at the plate.
-    Shaela Churchill blasted a two-run home run, while Stephanie Jones drove in two runs as well.
-    Olivia Scarborough, Julia Callicutt and Brittany Arnn were dealt losses in the circle as the pitching staff yielded a 5.25 ERA.

N.C. State against Campbell    
-    Kirsty Grant led the attack with three hits and .750 avg., followed by Renada Davis (.571) with four hits.
-    Grant registered two triples and drove in four runs.
-    The team RBI leader with Scout Albertson with five, recording a double and homer.
-    N.C. State posted .323 batting  and .477 slugging pct. in the three games.
-    Emily Weiman (0.00 ERA) picked up two wins and fanned 15 in 12 innings.

Camels Impressive at Home    
-    Campbell is 18-3 this year at home and an amazing 30-9 all time at Amanda Littlejohn Stadium.
-    A new single-game attendance mark of 390 fans was set against North Carolina (3/27), surpassing the previous high of 351 against Virginia (2/8).
-    The Camels have posted a .319 avg. and .554 slugging and .406 on-base pct. leading to 5.9 runs on 7.8 hits per game.
-    Bruce leads the way with a .400 avg.  followed by Klingler, who has seven home runs and .941 slugging pct., at .392.
-    34 of the 44 runs that Lee has driven in has come at ALJS including nine of her 12 homers for a .980 slugging pct.
-    The pitching staff has been superb in allowing just 1.60 ERA with 121 strikeouts in 136.0 innings.
-    Arnn (3-2) has a team-low 0.77 ERA, while Callicutt (5-0) is right behind at 0.81 ERA.
-    Roberts is an impressive 9-1 with 61 strikeouts in 56.2 innings of work.

Camels With A Lead    
-    Campbell is a perfect 17-0 when it holds a lead after five innings.
-    The Camels are also 21-2 when gaining an advantage in the fourth.
-    A mark of 17-0 has also been posted when the team has generated six or more runs of offense.
-    The most deadly innings for opponents facing the Campbell lineup is the first (55 runs scored) and fifth (50 runs scored).

Remembering Amanda Littlejohn    
-    Campbell celebrates its "Strikeout Cancer Day" against N.C. State.
-    There is special meaning for the Camels as former-player No. 42 Amanda Littlejohn lost her battle with cancer on Sept. 1, 2011.
-    She fought the cancer for four years after being diagnosed with Melanoma in the summer of 2007.
-    Littlejohn was a standout player for the Camels from 2007-08,  compiling a .296 avg., 131 hits, 27 doubles, 18 homers and 96 RBI.
-    She played the 2008 season, fighting the disease and tallied a historic campaign wiht .367 avg., 84 hits, 15 homers, 72 RBI.
-    Littlejohn blasted a 3-run homer that helped Campbell top North Carolina at the NCAA Regionals in 2009.

On The Road Again    
-    The Camels face a 10-game road trip at the end of April.
-    Campbell has played in just nine true-road contests, going 4-5 with losses to Georgia, Hawaii and Coastal Carolina.
-    The team has compiled a .205 batting and .301 slugging and .287 on-base pct.
-    Nesbitt leads the team with .455 avg. and 10 hits.
-    Jones has tallied a .400 avg., 3 doubles and 6 RBI.
-    Lee (2), Klingler and Bruce have each tallied a round-tripper.
-    The offense has averaged 3.8 runs on 6.2 hits per game.
-    In the circle, a 4.60 ERA has been tallied with 46 strikeouts in 56.1 innings.
-    Roberts (3.00 ERA) paces the team with a 3-0 mark followed by Scarborough (4.67 ERA) at 1-0.
-    Arnn is 0-4 with a 5.06 ERA along with 17 strikeouts in 18 innings of work.
-    Campbell has recorded a .942 fielding pct. during contests on the road, while opponents are .967.

Presbyterian Series    
-    Campbell achieved its goals and took 2-out-of-3 games on the road at Presbyterian.
-    The Camels took game one, 5-4, holding on at the end after taking a 5-2 advantage after a two-RBI single by Jones in the 5th.
-    PC came back with single runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh before Arnn shut the door for her first save of the season.
-    The Blue Hose raced out to a 5-1 lead on homers by Erin Ruff (2) and Kirby Legacki and evened the series, 6-2.
-    An offensive outburst of seven runs in the first two innings helped Campbell notch a 9-4 win in the finale.
-    Lee and Scarborough connected on homers as Nesbitter, Klingler, Lee and Scarborough each drove in two.
-    Roberts notched both victories for the Camels in the circle.
