BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell senior kicker Sam Eberwein has been named to the National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor Society, recently announced by the NFF and College Hall of Fame.
The group is comprised of college football players from all divisions of play who each maintained a cumulative 3.2 GPA or better throughout their college career.
Qualifications for membership in the NFF Hampshire Honor Society include: being a starter or a significant substitute in one's last year of eligibility at an accredited NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision, Football Championship Subdivision, Division II, Division III, or an NAIA college or university; achieving a 3.2 cumulative grade point average throughout entire course of undergraduate study; and meeting all NCAA-mandated progress towards degree requirements and graduation.
Eberwein was also named to the FCS Athletics Directors Association Academic All-Star team and the College Sports Journal FCS All-Academic squads in January, one of 54 in the nation. In April, Eberwein was named a recipient of the NCAA's prestigious postgraduate scholarship.
A senior placekicker, Eberwein was also a semifinalist for the National Football Foundation's Scholar-Athlete Award this season, as well as First Team Academic All-District 3 by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and First Team Academic All-PFL. Eberwein owned a perfect 4.00 GPA during his undergraduate work, and holds a 3.67 in his graduate program. Eberwein was a perfect 21-for-21 on extra point attempts this season and connected on 3-of-9 field goal tries with a long of 41.
A four-time PFL All-Academic selection, Eberwein is President of Campbell's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, a CU representative at the Big South's Leadership Conference, a CU Pharmacy and Presidential Scholar and a multiple recipient of the Campbell Scholar-Athlete Award, among others, while enrolled in the Campbell Dr. of Pharmacy & MBA joint degree program.
