BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell senior outfielder Ben McQuown was selected by the Oakland Athletics in the 30th round of the 2013 Major League Baseball Draft.

Oakland made McQuown the 911th overall pick on day three of the 2013 MLB Draft.

McQuown was a First Team All-Big South selection in 2013, setting a school record with 54 steals on the year, ranking fifth in Big South history and leading the nation.

The senior also set the Campbell career stolen bases mark with 81 in just two seasons, also tying for the career attempts mark with 93, and helped the Camels set a school record with 130 team stolen bases.

He hit .329 for the year, scoring 65 runs, the fifth most in school history, with 11 doubles, four triples and four home runs, reaching base at a .443 clip.

McQuown posted 25 multi-hit and six multi-RBI games, collecting a 14-game hitting streak while reaching base in 24 consecutive outings. He stole three bases in a game on eight occasions.

McQuown is the fourth Camel to be taken in the MLB Draft under head coach Greg Goff following Ryan Hamme (31st round, Chicago White Sox, 2009), Jake Smith (48th round, San Francisco Giants, 2011) and Matt Marksberry (15th round, Atlanta Braves, 2013), and the 47th overall in program history.

This marks the first time since 2000 that multiple Camels have been selected in the MLB Draft when Byron Batson (42nd round) and Daniel Hall (15th round) were both taken by the Milwaukee Brewers.
