CLINTON, S.C. – Senior forward Roslyn Presley (Petersburg, Va.) scored a game-high 16 points and sunk a pair of free throws with three seconds left to lift Campbell to a 46-43 victory on Saturday at Presbyterian.
Campbell grabbed a 43-39 lead with 1:20 remaining at the Templeton Center on a layup by Presley. The Blue Hose cut the advantage to one on two occasions on three pointers by Sherece Smith and Karlee Taylor, but the Lady Camels had a response each time to stay on top.
The Lady Camels saw freshman forward Amanda Coffer (Sumerfield, N.C.) record a career-high 10 points, all in the first half. Sophomore guard Kiera Gaines (Mechanicsville, Va.) contributed eight points.
A 10-rebound performance was totaled by senior forward Ashley James (Round Rock, Texas) for Campbell, which registered a 36-27 advantage on the glass. Eight rebounds for Gaines moved her career total to 497 and likely will become the 20th member of the program's 500-rebound club in the next game vs. Winthrop.
After shooting 47.8 pct in the first half, Campbell finished the contest shooting 18-of-44 (40.9 pct.) and sunk a game-high four three-point field goals. The Blue Hose compiled a 35.4 overall pct. from the field and were held to seven made field goals in the second half.
Presbyterian was led by Keyonna Allen with 14 points and nine rebounds, while Karlee Talyor added 11 points.
PC tallied 10 steals and forced 20 turnovers, leading to 20 points off mistakes. The hosts also edged the Lady Camels in points in the paint, 22-20.
Sophomore guard RaeChaun Edwards (Spring Grove, Va.), who scored six points, accumulated five of the 13 assists for Campbell.
A three from junior D Janelle Brown (Oklahoma City, Okla.) opened the scoring and a trio of layups by Presley aided the Lady Camels to an early 9-2 advantage. The Blue Hose came back to take their first lead of the half, 10-9, by scoring seven-consecutive points with 14:59 on the clock.
Neither team took control of the half the rest of the way as there were four ties and three lead changes. The difference at the break, 25-23, was a fast-break layup by Gaines with 47 tics left.
Presbyterian regrouped in the second half and used an 8-2 run to take its largest lead of the game, 31-27, with 15:52 remaining. Keyonna Allen, Kelley and Taylor made jumpers during the run.
A layup by Presley with 9:22 left put Campbell back on top 36-33. The decisive 7-0 run that was started by a trey from Gaines.
Smith converted a field goal to knot the contest up at 39 at 5:07 before Presley made a pair of free throws and a layup to increase the Lady Camels lead to four.
Campbell returns to Gore Arena/John W. Pope Jr. Convocation Center on Thursday to host first-place Winthrop at 7 p.m.
