BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Junior Kiera Gaines has been named College Sports Madness Big South Women's Basketball Player of the Week for Jan. 20-26. The guard used two double-digit point games to help lead the Lady Camels to two league victories this week.
Against Winthrop on Thursday, Gaines earned a rebound-assist double-double, barely missing the triple-double, to push CU past Winthrop in overtime 77-74. It was her eighth double-double of the season, tallying 12 rebounds and 12 assists, and she tacked on nine points in the victory. She went 2-for-5 from the field, all from beyond the arc.
Her 12 rebounds pushed her over 500 for her career, the 20th Lady Camel to reach the milestone.
Saturday, Gaines was the second leading scorer for Campbell with 15 points, and she added eight rebounds in the Lady Camels' 75-61 win at Radford. She shot 5-for-9 from the field, including going 2-for-6 from three, scoring her 700th career point.
In two games, Gaines shot 57.1 pct. from the floor and 45.5 pct. from three-point range.
Gaines and the Lady Camels return to the Gore Arena court Thursday in a 7 p.m. tipoff against Longwood.
