Campbell falls 3-2 at Radford on overtime golden goal

RADFORD, Va. - Campbell got a pair of second-half goals from freshmen Hernan Mogollon and Bradley Farias just 52 seconds apart, but Radford's Stephen Hudgens netted a golden goal just under three minutes into overtime to down the Camels 3-2 on Saturday evening.

Mogollon's goal at 57:29 was the first of the young freshman's career, and fellow freshman Bradley Farias tallied his team-leading fifth score of the season at 58:21 to knot the match at 2-2.

The overtime match was the first for Campbell since the opening round of the 2013 Big South Tournament, when the Camels played to a 2-2 draw at Longwood before falling in penalty kicks.

Redshirt freshman Matthew Mozynski was stout between the posts once again for Campbell, making 10 saves on 28 shots faced. The Bellingham, Mass., native has now made double-digit saves in three contests this season, including back-to-back matches after having 11 at North Carolina on Tuesday.

The Highlanders came out of the gate with pressure, forcing the Camels' defense into early action. Just two minutes into the match, Felix Steinhauser notched Radford's first shot on goal but was denied by Mozynski. Hudgens struck the post on an attempt in the ninth minute, and he and Neil Martorana were stopped on back-to-back opportunities in the 15th minute by Mozynski.

Daniel O'Keefe found a breakthrough for Radford at 25:16 to give the Highlanders a 1-0 lead; Jamie Summers fed in a pass to O'Keefe and earned an assist on the score.

Freshman Marco Perez gave the Camels a shot to equalize in the 31st minute, but Radford goalkeeper Aitor Pouseu Blanco made the save to maintain the lead. The Highlanders carried their 1-0 advantage into the halftime break.

Coming out of the locker room, both sides had good chances in the first 10 minutes. Mozynski ended Radford's first attack with a save against Hudgens, and both Farias and Scooter Oliver forced Pouseu Blanco into action at the other end for a pair of saves.

Dario Redondo added to Radford's lead at 56:02 with a goal from the left post. Krzysztof Nalborski played in a short corner for the Highlanders, and Redondo was able to make a short run into the box before finding the back of the net for the 2-0 lead.

Campbell needed just over a minute to respond and fire its way onto the scoreboard. Earning a free kick just outside the 18-yard box after a hard foul, Mogollon fired the set piece directly into the goal to cut Radford's lead in half.

Just 52 seconds later, Farias erased the lead completely with a rebound goal of his own. Sophomore Tunji Osifeso had his initial attempt stopped by Pouseu Blanco, but the Indiantown, Fla., native was there for the equalizer and his fifth goal of the year.

Radford applied late pressure over the final 20 minutes of regulation, but Mozynski made a trio of saves to preserve the 2-2 deadlock and force overtime.

The golden goal for the Highlanders came at the 92:51 mark on the first shot of the extra session. Evan Szklennik and Steinhauser combined for a play at the top of the box before Hudgens tallied the match-winner past Mozynski.

Campbell will remain on the road for another Big South date next Wednesday at Longwood with kickoff set for 7 p.m. The Camels and Lancers have met just three times in school history, with Campbell holding a 2-0-1 edge in the series.
