Campbell drops 4-2 mid-week decision at Longwood

FARMVILLE, Va. - Freshman Bradley Farias and junior Cameron Mulvey scored a pair of goals in the first half for Campbell, but the Camels fell 4-2 at Longwood in their second consecutive Big South road match on Wednesday evening.

The two sides traded goals over the first 30 minutes in a high-scoring first half that saw the Lancers carry a 3-2 lead into halftime. Farias' goal in the 16th minute was his team-high sixth of the season, while Mulvey's 31st minute header got the junior onto the scoresheet for the first time in 2014.

Redshirt freshman Matthew Mozynski played the full 90 minutes in net and made seven saves to bring his season total to 63. For the Lancers (2-8-1, 1-3-0 BSC), Carlos Canas made five saves and held the Camels (3-8-0, 0-3-0 BSC) scoreless in the second half.

The Lancers grabbed an early lead at the 11:33 mark as Jonathan Majin opened the match's scoring. Majin worked his way around a Campbell defender and got off a shot over Mozynski's head and into the back of the net for the 1-0 advantage.

Farias got the Camels on the board less than four minutes later with a one-timed strike at 15:09. Sophomore Tunji Osifeso played through the Longwood defense and found open space at the left post before playing the ball over to Farias in the front center of the goal. The freshman beat Canas with the low shot and briefly equalized the match for Campbell.

Longwood responded with another go-ahead goal only 23 seconds later at 15:32. Anthony Ugorji found himself on a breakaway through the Camels' defense and spun to his right before sending his attempt just inside the left post to put Longwood ahead 2-1.

Finnlay Wyatt added to the Lancers' advantage at 19:40 on a long strike from the top of the 18-yard box. He fired a right-footed shot that curled into the top left corner of the net past Mozynski for the two-goal lead 20 minutes into the match.

Mulvey pulled one back for Campbell just past the 30-minute mark, cutting Longwood's lead to 3-2. Freshman Hernan Mogollon took a free kick from just outside the box and struck the crossbar. The ball ricocheted downward and the Fuquay-Varina, N.C., native caught the rebound with his head, beating Canas to the left side of the net for his first goal of the season.

The 3-2 scoreline held up through the halftime break, but Mogollon nearly erased the Lancers' lead on another free kick in the 43rd minute. After striking the crossbar leading up to Mulvey's goal, the freshman hit the post before Longwood's defense was able to clear the attempt out of the box.

Coming out of the locker room, Longwood's Marten Pajunurm notched the first shot on goal of the second half on a header off a corner kick in the 56th minute. The ball popped up high off his head and was handled by Mozynski on its way down.

Dan Campos gave the Lancers their final goal of the match at 57:19 on a direct free kick. Lined up at the top of the arc, Campos tucked his shot just under the crossbar to the top left corner for the 4-2 lead.

The Camels made a late offensive push to cut into the lead. Junior Reafe Anderson's attempt in the 88th minute sailed wide right of the goal and senior Scooter Oliver put a shot on goal one minute later that was stopped by Canas.

Campbell will return to action with its third straight road match as the Camels travel to Boiling Springs, N.C., to take on Gardner-Webb. The Camels lead the all-time series 8-3-1 and hold an undefeated 3-0-1 mark against the Bulldogs on their home field.
