Campbell University

Q&A with sophomore defender Murita Storey

By Matthew Sokol
Media Services Student Assistant

Sophomore defender Murita Storey has appeared in every match this season for the Camels, tallying two assists through the team's first 14 games. Storey recorded three points, a goal and an assist, while appearing in all 18 games as a freshman in 2013.

The Chesapeake, Va., native met with Campbell Athletics to discuss the team's new direction under first-year head coach Stuart Horne and her transition from forward to defender.

Q: What factored into your decision to attend Campbell?

A: "I thought it was cool that all the teams would come out to support each other which is my favorite thing about Campbell. I got here on my official visit, and there was basketball and softball players … everybody was out there making me feel hyped. We did not have that at my high school."

Q: What's it like playing for Coach Horne?

A: "He is definitely different from last year's coach, and there is a more positive environment which is really good to work around. He just came in with a positive attitude this year.  I just said 'hey were about to go get that stuff done now."

Q: How have you adjusted in your new role on the field?

A: "I've had to transition quickly, learning how to defend.  I'm able to give more attack going forward, but I still have to get back to defend."

Q: What are your goals for the season?

A: "Since conference just started, as a team I would like us to win the championship. We have the ability to, and I have my eyes focused on winning the championship. I am ready for this ring to come, and it would be a huge difference."

Q: Do you have any animals at home?

A: "I have one dog named Twixie, and she is a chocolate lab. She is 77 years old in dog years, but she has a young soul."

Q: What is your favorite genre of music?

A: "I would have to say that my favorite type of music is R&B. I definitely know that I am not a fan of country music which is something I have had to get used to here."

Q: What are you studying at Campbell, and do you have any post-graduation plans?

A: "I am studying clinical research which has a lot of science in there and it is very time consuming. I plan on going to pharmacy school, possibly here at Campbell."

Q: Do you have a pregame routine?

A: "I do not necessarily have a routine, but I do like being with the team.  I am not one of those superstitious type of girls. I do enjoy the pregame meal and the music definitely helps get everyone pumped up in their element."

The Camels host Winthrop Saturday night at 7 p.m. for its 2014 Homecoming match.
