POWELL'S POINT, N.C. – Gaston Bertinotti holds a two-stroke lead in the individual standings and Campbell is 8th on the team leader board following Monday's second round of the Old Dominion/OBX Collegiate at Kilmarlic Golf Club.
A sophomore from Cordoba, Argentina, Bertinotti stands at 5-under-par 137 (70-67) on the par-71, 6535-yard Kilmarlic layout. Samuel Matthew of South Dakota is second (70-69—139) in the 84-golfer field.
Bertinotti made four birdies Monday and added an eagle as he bettered his previous collegiate career low round by three strokes. The 2014 Big South Conference runner-up stands is two-under on the par-4 holes (2nd in the field), 3-under on the par-5s (T11th) and even on the par-3s (T3rd).
James Madison (297-278—575) holes a three-stroke lead over Hartford (297-281—578) heading into Tuesday's final round of the 54-hole event. Campbell (307-281—588) is 13 shots back in eighth place after matching Hartford for the second-lowest score of the day.
Campbell freshman Jeremy Nevius (81-69—150) also shot a collegiate career low with a 2-under 71 on Monday and moved into a tie for 40th place with junior Mikko Lehtovuori (77-73—150). Sophomore Craig Hornberger (81-72—153) rebounded from a difficult opening day to move up to 54th, while freshman Carlos Leandro also trimmed two strokes off his first round score (79-77—156) to move up to 65th.
The 54-hole event concludes on Tuesday at the par-71, 6535-yard Kilmarlic layout.
