BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell University men's basketball fans will have the opportunity to see the Fighting Camels on television this year up to nine times during the 2014-15 season. Add in a pair of appearances on ESPN3 and Campbell will enjoy is widest-ranging regular season telecast schedule in the program's history.
Campbell will appear in three of the Big South Conference's seven telecasts on the new American Sports Network (ASN). ASN will televise a Big South game on five Mondays and two Tuesdays as part of the package. The first Big South matchup on ASN will air Monday, Jan. 12 with defending Big South champion Coastal Carolina traveling to Buies Creek to meet the Camels.
To accommodate ASN's coverage, the Gardner-Webb at Campbell contest originally scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 28 has been moved to Monday, Jan. 26. Campbell's Feb. 10 game at Liberty will also air on ASN. All three games are set for an 8:00 p.m. tip-off.
The American Sports Network consists of commercial TV stations owned by the Sinclair Broadcast Group and reaches close to 40 percent of all TV households in the United States with 167 stations in 77 markets. Sinclair will distribute its men's basketball productions to its stations solely located in the conference's footprint of Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina.
Sinclair's broadcast stations will either carry the games and any original content as part of the primary program lineup (generally on the Company's CW and MyNet affiliates) or as part of second channels (sub-channels of the primary station's signal).
"We are excited about the opportunity to play so many TV games this year," said second-year Fighting Camel head coach Kevin McGeehan. "Give credit to Kyle Kallander and the conference office for working hard and forging relationships with new networks."
In addition, the Big South Conference's men's 2014-15 TV package will feature four regular-season league games on ESPNU, eight matchups exclusively on ESPN3 as part of a "Game of the Week" package beginning in January, and six live telecasts of the 2014 VisitMyrtleBeach.com Big South Men's Basketball Championship.
ESPNU will televise four regular-season Big South games for the second consecutive year, with all four being "wildcard" selections that will be determined three weeks in advance. ESPNU will televise a Big South game on Thursday, Jan. 8 (7:00pm), Thursday, Jan. 22 (7:00pm), Friday, Feb. 6 (9:00pm) and Thursday, Feb. 26 (7:00pm). If selected, Campbell could appear on the ESPNU "wildcard" game up to three times with road games at Presbyterian (Jan. 22) and Gardner-Webb (Feb. 6) and a home contest vs. Winthrop (Feb. 26) falling on the dates.
Last year, Campbell twice appeared on the ESPNU "wildcard" game. The Camels fell at Gore Arena to eventual league tournament champ Coastal Carolina in a narrow 61-58 decision. Also, CU met in-state league rival and regular season champion High Point on ESPNU in another tight battle, a 56-53 Panther triumph.
This year, the Camels will host games aired by either ASN or ESPN3 four times with another possible ESPNU home date as well.
ESPN3 will carry the VisitMyrtleBeach.com Big South Men's Basketball Championship Quarterfinals and Semifinals on March 6 and 7, while ESPN2 will air the Big South Championship game live on Sunday, March 8 at 1:00pm.
During the non-conference portion of the schedule, Campbell will appear on regional broadcasts three times, starting with its Nov. 18 trip to Davidson, which will air throughout North Carolina on Time Warner Cable. The Big Ten Network will air Campbell's Nov. 26 trip to Ohio State. On Dec. 14, Campbell will travel to the College of Charleston in a matinee that will air on MyTV Charleston.
"For us to have eight TV games, complimented with the Big South Network games, an out of town parent or recruit will have the opportunity to see us play more than 20 times during the season. That's great for our visibility," said McGeehan.
Campbell (12-20, 6-10 Big South last season) finished 13th in the country in total 3-point field goals attempted (795) in 2013-14 and 14th in 3-pointers made per game (8.7).
Season ticket packages are on sale for the 2014-15 Campbell men's basketball season, which begins Nov. 14. Call 910-893-1459 or email tickets@gocamels.com for more information.
The Camels will tune up for the regular season with an exhibition on Nov. 8 against Division II Coker at Gore Arena.
