BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Coastal Carolina snapped Campbell's five-game winning streak with a 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-14) sweep Saturday in Gore Arena.
Redshirt junior Alexis Hein and redshirt senior Jessica Groen each registered eight kills on 32 and 30 attacks, respectively, to lead Campbell's offense.
Sophomore Rebecca Ramirez set up 14 CU attacks while freshman Summer Schuiema added 12 assists.
Defensively, junior Mary Crema picked up 17 digs and freshman McKenzie Fell assisted on three of CU's four blocks.
Coastal's Leah Hardeman led all hitters with 19 kills at a .357 clip and Sam Skryd registered 36 assists.
A five-point run put Coastal out in front in the first half, 20-17, and the Chants finished on four points in a row to win the first set, 25-20.
A pair of five-point runs gave the Chants the advantage in the following set, hitting .368 in the frame and holding CU to a .068 attack average. Coastal took the 2-0 lead after winning the second set, 25-17, using a kill and CU attack to round out the set.
Coastal clinched the match with a 25-14 win in the third, hitting at a .300 clip with 14 kills.
As a team, Coastal had the hitting advantage, notching 45 kills (.308 pct.) to CU's 34 (.119 pct.) The Chants picked up 41 digs to CU's 30, and had the advantage at the net, totaling six blocks to the Camels' four.
Campbell is back in action next weekend in its first league action away from Buies Creek. The Camels travel to Liberty Friday at 7 p.m. and Radford a 4 p.m. In a quick turnaround, CU returns home Sunday, Oct. 12 for a 2 p.m. faceoff with Northeastern.
