Camels 10th after first day of NC State tourney

RALEIGH, N.C. – Jeremy Nevius is tied for 15th place individually and Campbell is in 10th on the team leaderboard after 36 holes Monday of the Wolfpack Intercollegiate at Lonnie Poole Golf Course.

A red-shirt freshman from Metuchen, N.J., Nevius sits five strokes off the lead at one-over-par 143 (71-72) on the par-71, 7307-yard Lonnie Poole layout.  He played the par-5 holes at 3-under, third-best in the 93-golfer field, and has recorded 25 pars (tied for 10th) and five birdies over two rounds.

On Monday afternoon, Nevius played his final eight holes at 2-under to move within five strokes of individual leader Adrian Meronk of East Tennessee State (70-68—138).  Brandon Matthews of Temple (70-69—139) is locked in a three-way tie for second place with Georgia Southern's Scott Wolfes (70-69—139) and Jacob McBride (74-65—139) of host NC State.

The Wolfpack shot consecutive 283s and is two-under as a team (566) heading into Tuesday's final round.  ETSU is second (290-279—569), three strokes off the pace, followed by East Carolina (287-288—575).  Campbell (297-296—593) is in a four-way tie for 10th along with Temple (298-295), Loyola-Maryland (295-298) and George Washington (296-297) in the 18-school field.

Campbell sophomore Craig Hornberger posted 24 pars on Monday and is tied for 42nd place (76-74—150) at eight-over-par.  Fellow sophomore Gaston Bertinotti (80-72—152) is tied for 57th, freshman Carlos Leandro (76-78—154) is tied for 68th and junior Mikko Lehtovuori is tied for 73rd (74-81—155).

The Camels will be paired with Temple and George Washington for Tuesday's final round and start at 9:50 a.m. from the 10th tee.  Live scoring is available at Golfstat.com.
