Campbell falls 3-0 in mid-week tilt at No. 11 North Carolina

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Matthew Mozynski made a career-high 11 saves, but Campbell was dealt a 3-0 defeat against No. 11 North Carolina on Tuesday evening at Fetzer Field.

The match was the final non-conference tilt of the season for the Camels, who have eight Big South Conference matches remaining.

The Bellingham, Mass., native now has 46 saves on the season. Mozynski reached double-digit saves for the second time this season after recording 10 in the season opener at UNCG on Aug. 29.

The Tar Heels got goals from Andy Craven in the 11th minute and Rob Lovejoy in the 66th minute, as well as a penalty kick in the 87th minute from Nyambi Jabang to reach the final scoreline. As a team, North Carolina had 27 shots on the night compared to only four for Campbell.

Mozynski was pressured early as North Carolina put three shots on goal in the first 10 minutes. Omar Holness and Walker Hume found nearly identical chances from the top of the box, while Tyler Engel collected a rebound off a corner at the right post. Mozynski batted away all three chances to keep the score level early.

Campbell fell behind at the 10:44 mark as Engel found Craven on a cross from the right side. Craven headed it home to give North Carolina an early 1-0 lead over the Camels.

In the final three minutes of the first half, the Tar Heels again fired three chances on goal only to have Mozynski turn each of them away. Jabang, Zach Wright and Engel each had attempts inside the box saved as Campbell trailed 1-0 heading into the halftime break.

Entering the second half, the Tar Heels continued to pressure the Campbell defense with seven shots in the first 20 minutes. Mozynski made saves on three of those attempts and Holness struck the post in the 61st minute, but the Camels remained down just one goal despite North Carolina's chances.

Campbell fell behind 2-0 at 65:26 on a goal by Lovejoy. Alan Winn and Engel notched assists on the goal, capped by Lovejoy beating Mozynski to the bottom left corner from the center of the 18-yard box.

Junior Cameron Mulvey gave Campbell its best scoring chance of the night in the 77th minute, taking a solo run up the left side before firing a shot that pinged off the left post and out of play, narrowly missing pulling one back for the Camels.

North Carolina's Jabang drew a hard foul in the box at the 86:58 mark and was awarded a penalty kick, converting the chance himself to put North Carolina ahead by the final 3-0 mark.

Campbell will be back in action on Saturday evening at 6:00 p.m. for its first Big South road matchup of the season. The Camels will travel to Radford for the 23rd all-time meeting in the series; Campbell holds a narrow 12-9-1 advantage over the Highlanders but will be seeking its first victory since Oct. 9, 1999.
