CONWAY, S.C. – For the third-straight game, redshirt junior Alexis Hein led Campbell offensively, notching 10 kills Thursday, as the Camels fell at Coastal Carolina, 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-13).
Hein hit .250 pct., adding 12 digs in the match, while freshman Summer Schuitema set up the CU offense with 19 assists.
Junior Mary Crema led the back line with a game-high 18 digs and freshman McKenzie Fell notched each of Campbell's two blocks.
For Coastal, Leah Hardeman tallied 11 kills and Djuric Aleksandra totaled 23 assists. Defensively, Jenna Orner recorded 17 kills and Eszter Nagy blocked down four attacks.
As a team, Campbell generated 35 kills on 35 assists to Coastal's 42 kills on 40 assists. The Camel defense recorded 52 digs and two blocks, while the Chanticleers posted 55 digs and eight blocks.
The Chants held the lead in the first set, 21-20, after a Katelyn Layden kill put CU within one. However, Coastal used four-straight points on three kills and a Campbell error to put away the set, 25-20.
In the second set, the teams were locked to 20 before a 4-0 run gave Coastal the 24-20 advantage. Hein halted the run with a kill, but Nagy recorded her own point to give Coastal the 25-21 set win and 2-0 lead.
A 13-2 run from the Chants put Coastal ahead 21-10 in the third set, as Coastal held CU to a .032 attack pct. while hitting at a .346 clip. The teams traded three points apiece and Coastal put away a kill to take the set, 25-13, and the match, 3-0.
Campbell is back in action Saturday at 2 p.m. in its final regular season match of the year at Charleston Southern.
