BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Campbell cross country will compete on Friday at the 2014 NCAA Southeast Regional hosted by the University of Louisville at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park. The women's start time is scheduled for Noon and the men will begin shortly after their conclusion.
The Camels are coming off strong performances at the 2014 Big South Championships on Nov. 1; the men took third in the team standings and the women finished fourth overall in the meet hosted by Gardner-Webb.
Individually, Jacob Kipserem and Joan Maritim finished as the runners-up on the men's and women's sides and captured the 2014 Big South Male and Female Freshman of the Year awards. Evan Darm and Michelle Kauffman also earned all-conference honors with a pair of seventh-place finishes.
In addition to the Camels' performance on the trail, Kauffman and Anthony Hughes earned spots on the 2014 Big South All-Academic Team for their achievements in the classroom.
In 2013, the men finished 21st out of 35 schools at the regional meet, which was hosted at the University of Virginia's Panorama Farms Course. As a team, the women placed 24th out of 38 institutions.
Chris Schulist paced the men's squad last year with a school-record 10K time of 30:35.70 to finish 62nd overall. Ashley Matthews led the women in the 6K with a time of 22:14.70 to place 79th overall.
Among returnees, Darm led the men by placing 99th after crossing the line in 31:23.50, and Kauffman spearheaded the women with a time of 22:58.90 to finish 137th.
On Friday, 37 men's teams and 41 women's teams will be competing in the prestigious meet and will be seeking to advance to the 2014 NCAA Championships in Terre Haute, Ind., on Saturday, Nov. 22, at Noon.
