Coffer leads Lady Camels past Mount St. Mary's, 60-42

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – For the second straight game, sophomore Amanda Coffer led the Lady Camels in scoring, netting 21 points as Campbell defeated Mount St. Mary's, 60-42, Friday night at Gore Arena.

Coffer finished shooting 9-for-13, going 1-for-2 from beyond the arc and 2-for-2 from the stripe, adding a game-high seven rebounds, three blocks, and three steals.

Freshman Summer Price led the field with four assists, posting six points (2-for-5 FG), five rebounds, and a steal.

Jody Chickey was the only Mountaineer in double digits with 10 points, going 4-for-7 from the floor.

As a team, Campbell shot 24-of-55 (43.3 pct.), making 3-of-11 threes (27.3 pct.) and 9-of-14 free throws (64.3pct.). The Lady Camels generated 42 rebounds, 20 assists, 10 steals, and three blocks.

The Mountaineers were 15-of-51 (29.4 pct.) from the field, shooting 4-for-10 from three (40.0 pct.) and 6-of-7 from the stripe (88.9 pct.)

Campbell moves to 3-1 on the season, taking all three games played at Gore Arena. The Mount falls to 0-3 to open the year.

Campbell opened on 4-for-4 shooting from the field, with seven points from Coffer, notching two layups and a three, and a layup from Summer Leverette, leading the Mount 12-7 after a Leverette free throw at the 15:57 mark.

The Lady Camels extended the lead to 23-9 with 7:03 to go before the break on 11 straight points, with four from Leverette.

The Mount suffered an 0-for-13 drought over 12:03, as Campbell tacked on eight more points, including two Coffer free throws and a layup, to put the Lady Camels up 31-9 with three minutes left in the opening half.

Mount St. Mary's notched a bucked at the 2:44 mark with a jumper from Kayla Bates to get the Mountaineers into double digits, trailing 31-11.

The Mount tacked on four more points in the final minute before halftime on a layup and two free throws, and Price rounded out the half with a three from the left baseline to take the 34-15 CU lead into the locker room.

The Lady Camels shot 13-for-19 from the floor (68.4 pct.) and held the Mountaineers to 6-for-26 shooting (23.1 pct.) in the half.

Campbell came out of the break with a nearly seven-minute 11-4 jump on four Coffer layups, a Leverette free throw, and a RaeChaun Edwards jumper to take the 45-19 lead.

Later in the half, the Mount outscored the Lady Camels, 15-7, across 7:36 but Campbell kept the advantage, 56-35 with 3:19 remaining.

Jessica Pone netted the final three points for the Lady Camels on a layup and two free throws, while the Mount ended the game on eight straight points, closing the final score to 60-42.

Campbell next hits the road for a 7 p.m. tipoff at Western Carolina on Monday.
