Softball inks seven in early signing period

BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Seven student-athletes have signed NLIs with Campbell softball during the official early signing period as announced by first-year Head Coach Todd Bradley.

Caroline Smith, Abby Perryman, Christa Hall, Madison Casto, Madison Herring, Rachel McCollum and Megan Mozingo have each signed a letter of intent to join the Fighting Camels softball program for the 2015-16 academic year.

Campbell will kick off its 2015 campaign with the Campbell/Hampton Inn Invitational on the first weekend of February. The Camels will square off against Maryland-Eastern Shore (12:30 p.m.) and Towson (5 p.m.) in a Friday doubleheader on Feb. 6 before a Sunday double bill against East Tennessee State (1 p.m. and 3 p.m.) on Feb. 8. Also competing in the tournament will be Presbyterian, St. John's and Youngstown State.

Campbell 2015-16 Early Softball Signees

Caroline Smith (P/3B/SS, Black Creek, N.C., Beddingfield High School)
Will join the Camels after a successful career under Head Coach Jeremy Howard at Beddingfield High School... Beddingfield has posted a 66-14 record in Smith's first three seasons and has advanced to at least the fourth round of the NCHSAA 2A state playoffs each season, capped by a state championship in 2012 that saw Smith hit the game-winning RBI double for a 1-0 victory in 10 innings... The Bruins have also claimed the conference championship in each of Smith's three seasons... Has earned All-Conference honors three times and was named the Team MVP and the Co-Conference Player of the Year following her junior season in 2014... Won the 2009 Babe Ruth U12 World Series and the 2011 U16 World Series with the Wilson County Xtreme... Earned the batting champion award in 2009 and was the tournament's most outstanding player in 2011... Pitched the first perfect game in Beddingfield history as a freshman and has a 14-0 career pitching record... Has also competed in basketball, volleyball, tennis, golf and swimming, earning a pair of All-Conference nods in both volleyball and tennis and trips to the state championship in tennis and golf... Born Jan. 6, 1997... Daughter of Mack Smith and Jennifer Anderson.

Abby Perryman (P/1B/3B, Richland, Wash., Richland High School)
Has played three seasons under Head Coach Casey Emery at Richland High School... The Bombers have won a pair of district and regional championships in Perryman's three years and have finished no lower than fifth in the state at Washington top 4A level... Has earned First Team All-Conference and All-Area nods in each of the last two seasons... Also named the team's Offensive MVP in both 2013 and 2014... Excels off the field as well as a member of the National Honor Society, the Elite Fleet for Excellence and the Elite Fleet for Effort... Currently serves as the Vice President of her senior class... Born Feb. 15, 1997... Daughter of Jim and Erin Perryman.

Christa Hall (P/1B/2B/OF, Yorktown, Va., Grafton High School)
Has earned three letters at Grafton High School under Head Coach Vanessa Young... Played exclusively as an outfielder during her freshman and juniors campaigns while splitting time on the mound and at first and second base as a sophomore... The Clippers reached the state semifinals during Hall's junior year... Named honorable mention All-Conference in 2012 before earning First Team honors as well as a spot on the All-Region Second Team in 2013... Led the conference in batting average as a sophomore... Missed half of her junior season due to a knee injury... Also played volleyball and basketball... Named the Conference and Regional Player of the Year in volleyball following her senior season... Born March 26, 1997... Daughter of Tommy and Michelle Hall.

Madison Casto (2B, Hurricane, W. Va., Hurricane High School)
Has played three years as a second baseman for Head Coach Josh Caldwell at Hurricane High School... The Redskins have posted a 92-16 record in Casto's three seasons and captured the 2013 West Virginia AAA State Championship... Casto also led the team to a Best of the Best tournament championship in 2014... Has earned All-Conference, All-Area, All-Region and All-State recognition in each of her three seasons... Was the All-Area stolen bases leader as a freshman in 2012 and again in 2014, when she also led the conference in the category... Member of the National Honor Society and a senior student council officer... Also played basketball as a freshman... Led the Diamond Dusters travel team in batting average and runs scored from 2012-14... Born May 27, 1997... Daughter of Scott and Debbie Casto.

Madison Herring (SS, Kinston, N.C., South Lenoir High School)
Has earned three letters at shortstop for Head Coach Lisa Smith at South Lenoir High School… Led the Blue Devils to a 21-3 record during her junior season in 2014… Earned the team's Rookie of the Year award in 2012 and has captured back-to-back MVP awards in 2013 and 2014… Named the Eastern 2A Conference Player of the Year as well as the Kinston Free Press Player of the Year in 2014… Owns South Lenoir's school records in batting average (.526) and slugging percentage (.921)… Has been named to the All-District and All-State teams following each of her three seasons… Also named the Eastern 2A Conference Player of the Year in volleyball in 2013… A three-year member of the National Honor Society… Born Nov. 15, 1996… Daughter of Chris and Christy Herring.

Megan Mozingo (SS/OF, LaGrange, N.C., Eastern Wayne High School)
Did not play high school softball… Member of the Wayne County Hurricanes travel team coached by Mark McCollum… Also competed with the Carolina Wildcats in the fall league… Batted leadoff for the Hurricanes and served as the team's starting shortstop… Had a .526 batting average, .656 on-base percentage, 138 doubles, 41 triples and four home runs… Competed with the Hurricanes in a U-23 tournament in Virginia, posting a 4-2 record with only high school players to finish third out of 12 teams… Traveled with the Wildcats to a tournament at Disney in Florida and finished with a 6-1 record… Was named an All-Conference soccer player in 2012, 2013 and 2014 and captured the Golden Boot award for most goals scored in 2012 and 2013… Three-year member of the National Honor Society… Born June 17, 1997… Daughter of Danny and Angela Mozingo.

Rachel McCollum (P/OF/3B/C, Seven Springs, N.C., Spring Creek High School)
Played for Head Coach Lester Boltinhouse at Spring Creek High School… Led the Gators to the first playoff appearance in school history as a junior in 2014… Named to the All-Conference team in both 2013 and 2014 and also captured the team's Gator Award in 2014… Owns several Spring Creek school records, including most home runs in a season (six) and a career (11), highest batting average (.750), slugging percentage (1.636) and on-base percentage (.817) and most strikeouts in a season (88)… Played for the Wayne County Hurricanes travel team, capturing the 2010 AAU national championship and earning a runner-up finish in the USFA national championship… Also earned two All-Conference nods in volleyball and seven gold medals in track and field, finishing in the top seven among North Carolina athletes in the shot put… Born June 5, 1997… Daughter of Mark and Amanda McCollum.
