CU struggles from three in 58-53 loss to Presbyterian

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Karlee Taylor went 6-for-11 from beyond the arc to lead Presbyterian past Campbell 58-53 at Gore Arena Thursday night. The Lady Camels (16-10, 11-6) shot a season-low 12.0 pct. (3-for-25) from three-point range as the Blue Hose (10-17, 8-10) handed CU its first home loss since Jan. 9.

Taylor led all scorers with 22 points on 7-of-14 shooting. The Blue Hose shot 20-for-42 from the floor (47.6 pct.) and were 9-for-20 (45.0 pct.) from three.

Roslyn Presley was the only Lady Camel in double digits, with 19, shooting 7-for-15 from the floor. She added a game-high eight rebounds, seven of which were offensive.

CU finished 18-for-54 from the floor (33.3 pct.) and were 14-for-19 (73.7 pct.) from the charity stripe.

The score was tied at 30 with 17:25 to go in the game before Presbyterian went on a 23-7 run over 10:23 to take the 50-37 lead, its largest of the game. Five Blue Hose scored in the sprint.

Campbell answered with a run of its own, 16-6 over 6:10, to come within three points of PC, 56-53 with 38 seconds to go. Presley knocked down 7 points for the Lady Camels, including her second three-pointer of the season.    

In the following 25 seconds, missed three shots after a missed PC free throw, and sent Taylor to the line with 13 seconds to go. She knocked down both, securing the win for the Blue Hose, who are on a five-game win streak.

The loss was only the second in the last nine games for the Lady Camels.

PC went into the locker room at halftime with the 25-24 edge after ending the half on a 10-4 run over 4:54.

The Blue Hose shot 9-for-20 from the floor in the half, including 5-for-9 (55.6 pct.) from beyond the arc.

At the break, Campbell was shooting 8-for-21 from the field, and was only 2-for-10 from three-point range. The Lady Camels were a perfect 6-for-6 from the charity stripe. James led CU with eight points on 4-for-4 shooting and added two offensive rebounds.

The Lady Camels are back at Gore Arena Saturday at 1 p.m. for their last regular season game at home. Campbell will honor its seniors before the game, which will also be aired on ESPN3.
