BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Roslyn Presley scored a game-high 24 points and added seven rebounds on Senior Day to lead Campbell past Gardner-Webb, 65-62, Saturday at Gore Arena. The Lady Camels (17-10, 12-6) secured a first round bye in the Big South Tournament with the win, as the Runnin' Bulldogs evened their league record at 9-9 and moved to 14-13 overall.
Before tipoff, the Lady Camels honored its six graduating seniors: Heather Beadle, Casey Elliott, Ashley James, Jessica Moore, and Presley, as well as head manager Taylor Sherrill.
For the fourth-straight game, Presley led Campbell in scoring, shooting 10-for-16 from the field and 4-for-6 from the stripe. The senior made her first nine shots in a row, missing her first at the 10:54 mark of the second half.
Kiera Gaines was the only other Lady Camel in double digits with 12, adding eight rebounds and two assists.
Senior Ashley James became the 21st Lady Camel to join the 500 rebound club, pulling down 10 boards. She added two points and an assist on the day.
Campbell scored the first basket and led throughout the game until the Runnin' Bulldogs tied the score at 59 off Doreen Richardson layup with 2:04 left on the clock.
The score remained knotted until 47 seconds were left on the clock, as Gaines nailed a three pointer from the top of the key to give CU the 62-59 advantage.
The next trip down the court, Gaines made the back end of the double-bonus shots before Jasmine Dale hit a GWU three to bring the Bulldogs within one at 63-62 with 15 seconds to go.
Gaines was sent back to the line with 10 seconds to go, knocking down both shots as the Lady Camels moved ahead 65-62.
GWU tried to answer, but missed a three and a layup as time expired, and CU finished the season 11-3 at Gore Arena.
The Lady Camels finished the game shooting 23-for-50 (46.0 pct.), going 15-for-17 from the free throw line. The team finished with 40 rebounds and 14 assists.
Gardner-Webb shot 24-for-70 (34.3 pct.), as Richardson led the team with 12 points.
Campbell's largest lead was 14 at the 18:28 mark in the second half. Gardner-Webb went on a 24-11 run over 10:48 to cut the score to 53-52 with 7:40 to play, before Amanda Coffer answered with a three pointer to put CU up 56-52 21 seconds later.
The Lady Camels opened the game on a 7-0 run over the first 4:26. Seventeen of Presley's 24 points came before halftime on 7-for-7 FG and 3-for-3 FT shooting.
Campbell closes out its regular season next week on the road at UNC Asheville on Thursday and at Winthrop on Saturday.
