Softball drops 3-1 contest against Chattanooga

CHATTANOOGA, TENN. – Katie Henderson and Taylor Deason of Chattanooga combined for a one-hitter to defeat Campbell 3-1 in the final game Sunday of the Frost Classic of Chattanooga.

Katie Henderson (3-2) earned the win for Chattanooga, pitching five innings allowing one hit, one run, walking two and striking out two. Taylor Deason tallied a save, pitching two perfect innings. The victory for Chattanooga gives them an overall record of 8-6.

Katie Baker (3-3) took the loss for the Camels, pitching three innings allowing three runs (three earned) on five hits striking out one and did not walk a batter. Campbell falls to 7-7 overall on the season.

Campbell scored one run in the top of the first inning, while holding Chattanooga scoreless. Stephanie Jones reached on an error by the shortstop and advanced on a walk by Ericka Nesbitt. Jones stole third, Nesbitt advanced to second on the play. Milly Martinet drove in Jones on a sacrifice fly to give Campbell a 1-0 lead.

CU was held scoreless in its half of the second inning. Chattanooga scored via a two-run homerun by Jesslyn Stockard driving in Jenny Garcia, who singled to start the inning. Chattanooga took the lead 2-1 going into the third.

Chattanooga's Sarah Beth Roberts homered in the bottom of the fourth inning. The 3-1 lead was maintained by Chattanooga to secure the victory.

Campbell travels to N.C. Central to play a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m. Tuesday.
