Lady Camels visit High Point Thursday

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – On a five-game win streak, Campbell travels to High Point on Thursday to take on the Panthers in a 7 p.m. tip at the Millis Center. The Lady Camels (14-8, 9-4) look to split the season series with the Panthers (13-8, 9-3) after HPU took the first game at Gore Arena 76-62 on Jan. 4.

After trailing 30-28 at intermission of the first matchup, the Panthers made 15 of their first 25 field goals in the final period to break open a close game.

After a first half that saw the lead change 15 times and neither team lead by more than four points, High Point hit 11 of its first 21 shots of the second half. Kaylah Keys connected on a three that capped a 23-10 run and gave the Panthers a 59-44 lead with 8:42 to play.

High Point shot 48.3 percent (28-58) from the floor on the day, hitting 8-of-24 threes and 12-of-13 from the line. Campbell finished 18-of-49 from the field (.367), 4-of-11 from 3-point distance and 22-of-31 (.710) from the free throw stripe.

Saturday, the Lady Camels won the second overtime game they have played this season, taking down Liberty 61-55 in Buies Creek.

D Janelle Brown hit a three-pointer from the right corner with 34.2 seconds left and Kiera Gaines made 5 free throws in the final 19.5 seconds to secure the win.

Campbell led by as many as 13, but Liberty used an 11-0 run in the second half to knot the score at 40 with 9:15 to go in regulation.  The Lady Camels pulled ahead by three twice in the remaining minutes, but the Flames crawled back both times and held CU scoreless for the final four minutes.

The Lady Camels finished the game shooting 33.9 pct. from the field and 25.0 pct. from beyond the arc. The team's 14 turnovers was the lowest total since the two teams met on Dec. 28. 

Campbell paces the conference in assists (17.0) and ranks 22nd nationally. It is also second in the league with a 34.7 3FG pct., draining 130 on the season.

High Point averages the most points per game (72.4) in the Big South and is shooting 40.5 pct. from the field.

After Thursday's game, the Lady Camels hit the road again Feb. 13 and 15, taking on Coastal Carolina and Charleston Southern, respectively.
