HIGH POINT, N.C. – High Point snapped Campbell's five-game win streak Thursday night, 64-59, as the Lady Camels were hindered by early foul trouble and a first half drought without a field goal.
RaeChaun Edwards led CU (14-9, 9-5) in points and assists, with 15 and 7, respectively. She went 3-for-5 from beyond the arc and 4-for-6 from the free throw stripe.
Roslyn Presley netted her 700th career point in the contest, as she scored 13 points and added 6 rebounds.
Stacia Robertson netted 14 points and grabbed 14 rebounds for the Panthers (14-8, 10-3), who escaped with their sixth-straight win and second of the year over Campbell.
Campbell started the first half on an 8-0 run over 3:28, with four Lady Camels scoring in the streak.
CU was held without a field goal for over nine minutes in the half, scoring six free throws in the dry spell. HPU used those minutes to go on a 17-6 run, taking a 23-20 lead.
Campbell tied the game at 23 with 1:42 to go, as Edwards broke the drought with her second three pointer of the game.
The Lady Camels remained scoreless for the remainder of the half, and the Panthers went into halftime with the 26-23 lead after a Latrice Phelps free throw and Robertson bucket.
CU shot 30.4 pct. from the field and 33.3 pct. from beyond the arc in the first half. The Lady Camels were only 7-for-16 from the free throw line and carried 17 fouls with them into the locker room.
High Point extended its lead to 11 with 13:45 left in the second half, outscoring the Lady Camels 14-6 in the first 6:15 after the intermission.
Campbell turned around with its own 14-4 run over the next 4:21 to cut the Panther lead to one with 9:03 to go. In the sprint, Summer Leverette knocked down a three and added two free throws to close the gap.
HPU pulled ahead again led by DeAnneisha Jackson's three layups, from which Campbell couldn't recover. The Panthers knocked down seven free throws in the final 46 seconds to secure the victory.
The Lady Camels finished shooting 34.4 pct. from the field and only 50.0 pct. from the free throw line. The team stole the ball 16 times, tying its season high, and dished 15 assists, while committing 22 turnovers.
The Panthers went 37.9 pct. from the field and were 84.2 from the stripe. Every active player in the game contributed points for HPU.
The Lady Camels will make a two-game trip to the South Carolina coast next week, taking on Coastal Carolina Feb. 13 and Charleston Southern Feb. 15.
