BUIES CREEK, N.C. – ESPNU has selected the Campbell at High Point men's basketball contest as its Feb. 28 Big South Wildcard Selection broadcast. Game time will be 7:00 p.m. at the Millis Center in High Point, N.C., and the contest will switch from its originally scheduled date of Saturday, March 1 to accommodate the broadcast.
The telecast features the current leader in the North Division (High Point), while Campbell sits one game behind the Panthers in the divisional race. Both teams are challenging for first round byes in the 2014 VisitMyrtleBeach.com Men's Basketball Championship, which begins Wednesday, March 5 at The HTC Center in Conway, S.C., on the campus of Coastal Carolina University.
"It's a great opportunity to again be on national television and showcase what we're trying to establish here with Campbell Basketball," said Campbell head coach Kevin McGeehan. "High Point is one of our strong division rivals and it's the last game of the regular season before we start the conference tournament, so this is another great chance for us to gain national exposure on ESPNU."
Campbell won the first meeting earlier this season, 74-71 on Jan. 8, and is looking to sweep the season series from the Panthers for the first time since re-joining the Big South in 2011-12. In last month's game, Reco McCarter led the Fighting Camels with 19 points and seven rebounds, while HPU's Adam Weary scored a game-high 22.
The Campbell-High Point game is the third of three Big South ESPNU "Wildcard" broadcasts this season. ESPNU previously tabbed the Feb. 1 Coastal Carolina at Campbell game and the upcoming UNC Asheville at Radford contest on Thursday (Feb. 13) as its first two "Wildcard" selections. The three games are part of a league-high four regular-season conference game appearances on the 24-hour college sports network in 2013-14. ESPNU also televised the Jan. 10 Radford at High Point game.
Including last Saturday's ESPNU game in Buies Creek, where Campbell set a new home game attendance record (3220) at 3095-seat Gore Arena, Campbell will appear four times on the ESPN family of networks during February. This Saturday's 4:00 p.m. game at Winthrop and Campbell's Feb. 22 home date with Liberty will be carried on line by ESPN3.
