Softball defeats St. Bonaventure in six innings

CLEARWATER, FLA. – Campbell homered three times to defeat St. Bonaventure, (10-1) in six innings Saturday at the USF UnderArmour Invitational. 

Julia Callicutt pitched six innings, scattering three hits, allowing a run, walking five, and striking out three.  The win evens Callicutt's record to 1-1 on the season and the Camels overall record to 11-8.

Julia Pratt is dealt the loss for St. Bonaventure.  She pitched 4.1 innings, allowing seven earned runs, on eight hits, while striking out one and walking two. Pratt's record falls to 0-4 and pushes St. Bonaventure to an overall mark of 1-12.  

Campbell had five different hitters with two or more hits in the game. Stephanie Jones had two hits, one which was a homerun and drove in three runs, Ericka Nesbitt went two-for-two driving in one.  Courtney Klinger went two-for-three with a home run, driving in two.  Bailey Bjorson went three-for-three, including a home run driving one. 

St. Bonaventure plated a run in road half of the first.  Jones homered to left field on the second pitch of the inning, evening the game at one.

Campbell held St. Bonaventure scoreless in the second.  Bjorson homered off the left field foul pole with two outs in the inning.

Callicutt held St. Bonaventure scoreless in the third inning.  Jones reached via a walk and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt.  Klingler singled to put runners at first and third.  Maggie Christopher pinch ran for Klingler and was caught stealing second, but Jones was able two swipe home on the play putting CU up 3-1.

Campbell added four runs in the fifth inning.  The first two runs in the inning were scored via a double by Nesbitt scoring Churchill and Jones, on the play Nesbitt advanced to third on the throw from the outfield.  Klingler then hit a two-run home run over the left centerfield fence.  Campbell  led 7-1 going to the top of the fifth.

CU added three runs on two hits in the bottom of the sixth.  Kerstine Womack walked with one out, and then Bjorson singled up the middle placing runners on first and third. Shaela Churchill added another single scoring Womack.  Jones tripled to right centerfield, scoring Churchill and Bjorson ending the game 10-1 in six innings.

CU is back in action Saturday afternoon at 2:15 against Oakland University.
