Box Score KENNESAW, Ga. – Campbell clinched its first victory of the season Saturday, defeating Kennesaw State 15-8 at Fifth Third Bank Stadium. Senior Taelar Errington led the Camels with four goals in her first action of the year.
For the second-straight year, the first win of the season for Campbell (1-2) has come over KSU (0-3).
The Camels struck first, as sophomore Erica Hitch netted her third goal of the season 94 seconds into play off a free position shot.
Sophomore Loren Day wasted no time notching her fifth goal of the season less than a minute after Hitch, giving CU the 2-0 lead in less than four minutes of action.
Campbell continued the trend, scoring eight more goals in a row in the following 15 minutes.
In the streak, Errington collected three goals, while sophomores Kaki Armiger, Rebecca Sheinfeld, Hitch and Day added one, along with freshman Jasey Sanders.
The Owls got on the board with 9:34 to go before the break, as Olivia Hokanson tallied her fifth season goal.
The Camels went into halftime with the 10-1 lead.
Hitch opened up the second half more quickly than the first, using a Grace Boyce helper to score just 38 seconds after the intermission.
Emily Collins grabbed KSU's second goal soon after, bringing the score to 11-2 in favor of CU.
Freshman Hayley Carroll, Armiger, and Day strung together three goals in a row before KSU's Sydney Farwick and Hokanson went on a five-goal tear, closing the Camel lead to 14-7.
Errington's fourth goal, CU's final score, came with 3:11 left on the clock.
Hokanson tacked on her fourth goal, which was the final of the game, with only 1:46 to go, as Campbell walked away with the 15-8 victory.
The Camels took 36 total shots to the Owls' 14. CU also had the edge in ground balls, 25-22, and draw controls, 16-7.
Senior goalkeeper Brittany Kincer played the first half in goal, and only faced one Owl shot, Hokanson's first goal.
Freshman keeper Merredith Bechler was in the cage for the second half, making four saves on 13 KSU shots.
The Camels are back in action Monday, as they host St. Francis for a 7 p.m. draw at Barker-Lane Stadim.
